Jordan felt sick. He couldn’t believe what he was hearing. He never pictured Tiffany not siding with him. However, he never thought of it from her perspective. She will be working long days at the hospital and caring for people like him. Then to come home and have to basically work again.
“Thanks, Mom. I won’t let you down! This means so much to me Mom that you and Dad trust me like this. I swear I won’t let you down.” Sara gleefully exclaimed as she looked down at Jordan.
“Jordan, I expect you to mind my daughter. It’s a new world out there. People are looting homes and taking underbreds like you who are trapped with no one to care for them. You should be thanking your lucky stars that Sara took you in. I suggest you show her a little respect and appreciation. I know you didn’t mean it that way but it sounded awfully ungrateful.” Tiffany said as she walked closer to the small room her daughter made.
“Yes, Mam. I’m sorry if I seemed ungrateful Sara.” Jordan said feeling compelled to apologize after Tiffany admonished him. As he looked over at Sara he could see by the expression on her face that she had won. She had not just won but it was like he wasn’t even playing. Not only that, it was startling to hear the reality of what is happening. He hadn’t realized how sheltered Sara had kept him. As he thought back on the events of the previous day he could see now she was trying to keep him busy and distracted from the reality of it all. She purposefully kept him away from the news. Yes, locking down the phone was extreme but it no longer seemed as controlling as it once did. The idea that he could have been enslaved was horrifying. It was something that just didn’t happen in this part of the world.
“It’s okay Jordan. I can’t imagine what it’s like from your perspective. Mocha loves me as her owner. I’m sure you will too.”
