The word stuck out as soon as he had heard the word. He knew that she didn’t mean it the way it sounded to him. The draconian use of the word owner felt repressive as soon as it left her mouth. He was being compared to her pet cat. He was in some way on the same tier or was Mocha above him? Mocha had free reign of the house. Mocha could stretch out in the living room, the guest room, nowhere was off limits. However, Jordan couldn’t help but notice how he was confined to this small room for his “protection”. Yes, he understood and saw the real dangers of it all but none of it seemed fair. He was a person. He was the human being. Yet he was one who was confined.
It was unnerving watching Tiffany tower above his home. She then crouched down looking in on him. He couldn’t help but feel like some kind of zoo animal as she admired Sara’s ingenuity in putting together the materials. The two women talked about him and his home as if he wasn’t present. Their eyes almost looking past him. It wasn’t until he heard a long gap of silence that he realized Tiffany had spoken to him.
“If you need anything just let Sara know and she can get it or if she can’t she can come to us. It’s important that you feel part of the family. I know it will be a lot for everyone to adjust to. However, this is going to be the new normal from the looks of it. I know it’s not what you want to hear but that’s just the reality. Hopefully, some kind of cure can be created.” Tiffany said.
“Didn’t the funding..” Sara started to say before being cut off.
“Sara!” Tiffany scolded
“What? He’s going to find out eventually. The latest is with the massive wave of infections there may not be enough full-sized underbreds to warrant continued research. They want to divert the funds to making sure it doesn’t mutate as then it will just die out. But you don’t need to worry about any of that. You have me and this is going to be so great. All my friends are excited to meet you and my best friend Mallory. Her boyfriend caught Smallera. You two can be pals. Do you want me to text her about setting up a play date? I’m sure you would love to see someone your own size.” Sara said already reaching for her phone.
