“That’s a fine idea dear. I’m sure Jordan would enjoy a little company from someone his own size. Isn’t that right Jordan?” Tiffany spoke in such a way that Jordan knew it wasn’t truly a question at all. It had already been decided. Sara was in motion on her phone. It was just a matter of when.
“Yes, Ma’am,” Jordan said realizing this house was clearly run as a matriarchy and Tiffany was clearly the matriarch as he stared into her giant face knowing that any help he had imagined coming from her clearly wasn’t. He had been placed firmly in the hands of her daughter Sara.
“I have to head back into the hospital in 12 hours so I’m going to get some sleep. Make sure your chores are done. I can let the room slide because yesterday was a bit abnormal. If it happens again, I won’t be afraid to re-evaluate the situation here though.” Tiffany spoke before rising back up. Soon her face had risen well above me and I was staring at her lower half.
“Yes Mom, of course. You won’t be disappointed. Jordan and I will keep things in tip-top shape around here. I was already thinking about how he can clean out the drain in the dishwasher. As someone doesn’t seem to clean the plates off well enough.”
“Yes, that someone should best make sure it’s cleaned up this week,” Tiffany added as she walked out of the room closing the door.
“So that went well, didn’t it? I think she likes you. You should have seen her when she found out I had Dad get me Mocha.” Sara said kicking her feet a bit in the air before jumping off the sofa and reaching into my room. Jordan still hadn’t gotten used to the speed of the giants and as her hand enclosed around me, He yelped in surprise. His legs dangled helplessly as Sara lifted me out of my room. The entire experience was humbling as he knew this was the only way out now. All roads led through Sara.
“That was her liking me? I’d hate to see what disliking was like. Look, I do appreciate what you’re doing for me. Really, I know it would have been easy to just wash your hands off the situation. So thanks, I’m willing to try to make this work.” He said. Knowing that my alternatives from what it sounded like ranged from slavery or kidnapping, to possibly death.

One of the things I love about this moment is Jordan coming to realize that he’s is sort of owned by a person, but not even the highest ranking person in the family. The person who has total control of his life has someone who has control over her life.
And before long Tiffany will do something to Sara that will have repercussions for Jordan, the exact reason this situation is to terrifying.
