Jordan reached the cover of the books but was now out of ideas. Climbing the books would be useless as that’s what spiders do best and they have a bunch of eyes so they could still have a fairly wide range. The glass vases were much too close to where the spider was now and even if he could reach them the smooth glass would pose a problem. Jordan peeked out from behind the book and saw the spider coming towards him. He knew now beyond a doubt that he had been seen.
“This is it. The only thing I can think to do is throw myself off the side of this coffee table.” Jordan sadly said to himself. As he looked over at the edge he wondered if he could actually do it. If he could really just leap off this table into what was probably his death. He had nothing to slow his descent. No glider, no parachute, nothing. It would be no different than jumping out the window of a several-story building just hoping you survive the fall. In his case, Jordan wondered briefly if he would even want to survive the fall. As he would surely be injured. The idea of being even more helpless as the spider made its way towards him just to slowly devour him was even more off-putting than dying from the fall.
The only other thing Jordan could think of is if he had some sort of weapon. But everything he could see was to big and he struggled to come up with something that would be useful.
