“So can I hold him now? I promise to be gentle Sara.” Dayton said as she looked at him with glee.
“Sure,” Sara said at the same time Jordan No. However, his voice was completely drowned out. He pushed against Sara’s massive fingers cursing at how strong she was. He wondered how strong she would appear to him at his old size. However, as thought back on things he couldn’t really remember ever encountering her. Jordan was sure he had but she was just another high school girl and never really thought much of her.
All of that seemed like another lifetime ago to Jordan. As he looked up at the girl who now lorded over him. She might as well have been the Greek goddess Aphrodite as far as he was concerned.
It was at that exact moment he felt a warm smaller hand press against his back. The smaller fingers coiled around him inside Sara’s grip. A jolt of surprise surged through Jordan’s body as a tremor of fear hit his body like a linebacker. He watched helplessly as Sara’s hands started to move away from him.
Jordan felt a panic he hadn’t felt since that very first day in the yard. He recalled looking up at the giant Sara as she mowed her yard causing untold horror and fear to him below in the forest which is her backyard.
He wasn’t aware of exactly when it happened but he realized he had been living in a bubble of safety with Sara. Yes her cat almost killed him. Yes, a spider was almost the death of him. But for the most part, he was safe. He was cared for by her. He felt safe with her. He knew she ultimately cared about him.
Now he was in foreign territory so to speak. He was trapped. As he pressed against her fingers he was completely immobilized by Dayton. The notion of being so helpless before this girl Sara was babysitting was humiliating.
“I expect you on your best behavior. I don’t want to hear about you giving Dayton trouble.” Sara said in a serious tone.
“What? Me? I’m an adult here. I’m perfectly capable of watching someone. I won’t let you down.” Jordan said not realizing how absurd what he said sounded to her but Sara not wanting to hurt his feelings smiled and nodded.
