“Dayton is in charge,” Jordan mumbled as he flailed in the air above the ground.
“I”m sorry. I didn’t quite catch that. Use your words.” Dayton teased.
“I said you’re in charge. Alright?” Jordan huffed as he lost his cool.
“That is not how we talk to adults mister. You will give me the same respect you give Miss Sara.” Dayton said as she released her grip on his ankle causing him to drop onto the ground.
“Well, you aren’t an adult,” Jordan said quietly to himself as he picked himself up.
“Now I’m going to need you to stand next to her so I can size you up,” Dayton said as she motioned to a spot right next to her and the doll.
“We can see that it’s bigger,” Jordan said as he eyeballed the doll at a much closer angle.
“Oh it’s definitely bigger but I want to see how much bigger now. She looks kind of like a giant compared to you. ” Dayton as her eyes ran between the doll and Jordan.
Jordan cringed at that thought. As he eyes the massive doll it was humbling to see a toy so much larger than him.
“Hurry up or I will move you into position myself,” Dayton said impatiently.
“Okay, okay,” Jordan said tossing his hands up to ward her off as he moved towards the doll. He glanced across the room and could see Sara who might as well be a hundred miles away as she worked on her homework.
“This is fuckin’ happening,” Jordan said under his breath. “So Dayton how old are you anyway?” Jordan asked as he approached the doll and stared up at it.
“Twelve but I turn thirteen a few months. Mom is so overprotective. I think I should be able to watch myself. But Sara is cool. She has been watching me for a few years now. She’s practically my sister.” Dayton as she motioned for Jordan to stand up straight.
Jordan on the other hand felt sick. He was overpowered by a middle schooler. Never in his life did he imagine that this was what it would be like for those infected. As he thought back on things he wished he would have been more vigilant. Now a child’s toy outweighs him.
