The words hit him about as hard as the flick from Sara’s finger last night. While that left him visibly gasping for air, this did much the same mentally. Never had it been put so bluntly to him. She was the boss. A simple phrase. What bothered Jordan the most at that moment, what struck him the hardest, was his inability to refute that phrase. Desperately he wanted to deny it. Every time he started to say something, the words all fell apart like a house of cards.
As he stepped onto the uneven palm of Sara’s hand, he grasped her finger for support. The movement across the living surface had started to grow easier. That in and of itself bothered Jordan, and the fact that walking across her hand was something he would have to get used to. He knew at this point this was going to be his life. Even if a slot magically opened and Sara took him to the hospital, the cure would be wasted on him.
No, he was trapped in this diminutive body and about to relive high school from this teen’s pocket. As he looked up at Sara, she loomed over his habitat. It was a sickening feeling that he couldn’t even see her face without stepping back or turning his body from this current angle.
“Why are you so glum? I thought you would be excited to get out of your little bedroom. You can always spend the day here if you want.” Sara said in her booming voice.
“This is just all becoming real very fast. My home, my stuff, my life, it’s all over. I lost everything.”
“You’re life isn’t over. It’s just going to be different, is all. You should be looking at how well you landed on your feet. You secured a new place to live, your own little bedroom, furnished even. All your meals will be prepared for you, and best of all.” Sara said in a cutesy voice. “You get to be my whitto man.”
“I guess it could be worse.” Jordan said
“I have been trying to keep some of this from you. But this is how it turned out for other people.” Sara said as she held her phone down in front of the glass of his cage, showing a picture of a small person his size licking a giant foot before swiping to another photo of someone who was crushed to death before sliding her phone back into the pocket of her skirt.
Jordan didn’t want to believe what he saw, but he knew it was true. It just seemed unfathomable that someone could do that to another person. They just took them and smashed them under some dirty sneakers like a bug. They degraded another like they were less than nothing.
“Look, it’s not all like that, okay? I don’t want you to think people are running the streets crushing underbreds or making them all into slaves. I just wanted you to see a small bit of how things could have been. You are going to have a good life as my little man. I promise.” Sara said with a smile.

This is the stuff that tempers my hatred for Sara. In reality she could be way worse and this is THE primary example of the grim reality of this world that we tend to forget.
There are many people much worse then Sara. You are correct. She is kind of the foil in the a lot of ways for Jordan. But in reality she isn’t that bad. SHe is just just a normal teenage girl.
