Ellie pulled a large heavy metal door open as they walked to Sara and Ellie’s school building. Jordan hated that Sara was right. He hadn’t taken this seriously. He didn’t even know about the guardian program. The thought of being stuck in some kind of government facility waiting to be processed for weeks, months or possibly years was frightening. Jordan owed more to Sara than he wanted to admit at that moment.
“The majority of the people who are registered to be guardians work in schools and hospitals as it’s required as they are viewed as essential workers,” Ellie added as they walked further into school. While Jordan who was already uneasy over recent revelations was not prepared for the amount of people who were everywhere Jordan looked.
“Ugh, it’s Charity Stevens. It looks like she survived the outbreak. She’s such a bitch. I was hoping she got cut down to size.” Sara said with a bit of disdain.
“Could you imagine her giving you shit from the palm of one of her cronies’ hands,” Ellie said with a laugh.
“I would love to just be able to flick her off her perch,” Sara said as she looked down at Jordan. “Don’t worry; I won’t let anyone hurt my whitto man,” Sara said as Jordan felt her hand come down on him and stroke his hair and back gently as she petted him. “She’s not even Immune but sure as hell acts like it,” Sara added
Jordan found himself powerless to do anything as Sara pet him. However, he saw another side of her as she spoke about some random classmates. She seemed more vengeful than he had heard her before, but he also didn’t know any of these people, and maybe they deserved it.
“So, what’s the deal with Charity Stevens?” Jordan asked.
“She’s a bitch and likes to think she runs this school all because her dad runs some large Pharmaceutical company,” Ellie said.
“You are not to associate with her.” Sara quickly added. “I mean it, Jordan,” Sara said as she glared down at Jordan with a look of anger, he hadn’t seen from her before.
“Yes, yes, of course. I don’t even know how I would.” Jordan added, still not why Sara and Ellie didn’t like her, but the look on Sara’s face and the fact she used his actual name told him he wouldn’t get any more information. He sat down in her palm as they continued into the commons.
