Sara walked down the hall, moving past large-bodied teens. Jordan nervously eyed the giants, who looked like large downtown buildings. Many ignored him altogether, being more focused on getting to wherever they were going than him. While others would let their curiosity show as they saw him perched on Sara’s shoulder. This led to Jordan feeling a bit more self-conscious.
Sara went down several halls in which Jordan was beginning to feel lost before they reached a relatively quiet hallway. He spotted a giant men’s sign on the side of the wall. However, they walked directly past it.
“Ah, Sara. Not to backseat drive here. But we just walked by the bathroom.” Jordan said.
“That’s the men’s bathroom,” Sara said in a tone that made it seem like he was asking the dumbest question possible.
“Right, but I’m a man,” Jordan said as Sara continued down the hall.
“Yes, but you also can’t push the door open to the men’s bathroom. Then even if you were able to get inside, you couldn’t reach the toilet or sink. Plus, the men’s restroom is gross. You can use women’s from now on with me. I know what you are thinking, and it’s not that strange. Mothers bring young kids with them into the bathroom all the time. ” Sara said as Jordan held onto her sweater. He already knew that he would be unable to sway her opinion.
Jordan felt uncomfortable with the idea of using the women’s bathroom but also didn’t see an alternative. As Sara approached the door to the bathroom, Jordan closed his eyes and gripped her sweater tighter. He told himself he wasn’t going to look. In his mind, the bathroom would be filled with women in varying states of undress.
“What are you doing? Would you open your eyes before you fall off and hurt yourself? You are being ridiculous, and no one is even in here right now anyway.” Sara scolded as she walked further into the bathroom. Jordan skeptically peeled his eyes open, revealing what Sara had said to be the truth.
“You need to be quick about it. I only have seven minutes between classes. No one has time for you to spend twenty minutes contemplating the meaning of life.” Sara said as they walked further into the bathroom. As Jordan looked at the giant sinks lined up against the wall on one side and the stalls on the other, he couldn’t help but notice a level of cleanliness that the men’s bathroom didn’t have.
