Dread enveloped Jordan as Sara walked into the classroom. Giant lab tables surrounded the room’s perimeter, with desks grouped in the middle. Jordan peered out from Sara’s hand as she walked further into the classroom; the teacher was nowhere within his periphery.
Similar to Sara’s English class, giant students scattered about the classroom talking to one another while they made their way inside. Jordan hoped Sara sat in some out-of-the-way corner, not near anyone. But, he knew such a hope was about as likely as this reality just being a nightmare.
“You can be my little lab assistant. I’m sure it won’t be an issue.” Sara said.
“Well, I guess it’s better than being your science experiment,” Jordan said with a sigh.
“My science experiment?” Sara said questioningly. “Wait a minute..you are a genius Body Hottie,” Sara said with a grin.
“I was merely kidding. No need to put any thought into this.” Jordan said already regretting that he opened his mouth.
“We have an end-of-the-year project that’s worth half our grade. I could do an experiment where I compare and contrast your habitats with a regular person. You are a genius.” Sara said
“No, no, that’s not what I…” Jordan got out before he was interrupted by a new voice.
“Oh my goodness, who is your little friend Sara?” Jordan felt his blood immediately turn cold. As he saw the giant faces of two teens fixate on him and Sara. However, more on him. The hope was that Sara would just casually respond and keep moving. However, much to Jordan’s chagrin he could feel her body turning while her fingers closed briefly around him as Sara set her stuff down.
The squeal of the chair being drug across the tile floor, as it was slid out from the desk, was the nail in the coffin for Jordan. Sara looked down at him briefly as Jordan displayed an upset look. This was a much worse situation than before. As this classroom had tables instead of desks. So students sat in groups of two.
“Sorry, he’s a little nervous. He hasn’t been socialized much since his bout with Smallara.” Sara said off-handily.
The remark didn’t go unnoticed by Jordan who couldn’t help but feel like she was referring to him as some kind of new puppy dog she needed to take to the dog park and socialize with the other dogs. The notion of it all was infuriating.
