Maisy was astonished as she looked down at the small animal being pinned beneath Sara’s hand. She hadn’t ever seen such rabid anger from a creature so small towards another so much bigger than it was before. In another circumstance, she would have almost applauded such an act. Foolish as it may be she couldn’t help but think it has a certain bravery to it all. There is a fine line between foolishness and bravery Maisy thought to herself.
“I guess this is the problem with underbreds don’t you think Sara? They pretended to be human for so long that they actually think they are. Rights and all. I guess your master hasn’t taught you to heel yet, has she? Don’t worry little one. I won’t hold this against her. As no matter how well you train an animal you can never fully remove the wild from it.” Maisy said
Jordan was sickened by her words. He didn’t agree with Sara’s view on the Smallara subject but she had never spoken to him with such a blatant disregard of respect.
“I’ll go let Mrs. Weller know we are formally changing our project then,” Maisy said as she stood up. “We expect your full cooperation. What did you name him? Body Hottie? Maisy said with a smile down to Jordan before walking away.
Sara said nothing until Maisy was out of earshot before looking down at Jordan. She couldn’t blame him for his actions. As she couldn’t imagine what he must be going through. While not agreeing with all of what Maisy said Sara couldn’t help but wonder why out of all the people to pick a fight with why did it have to be Maisy. Sara thought to herself.
“What are you trying to do?” Sara whispered softly so her other classmates couldn’t hear her. “Maisy is like the most popular girl in school. I told you not to embarrass me, and you’re acting like a rabid dog over being called a pet. People like Maisy don’t hang out with me. Do you know what that would do for my popularity if I could get in good with her? Well, the expectation is that you will endear yourself to her.” Sara whispered softly.
“She’s horrible! I deserve some respect. I haven’t said anything about anything you or anyone else has said to me. But I refuse to be spoken to like that by her.” Jordan said as loudly as he could. However, even his loudest voice was inaudible to anyone beyond the vicinity of Sara.
“First off, I have been good to you. You don’t even understand what I’ve done for you. Haven’t you noticed as big of an outbreak that we just had that you haven’t seen any other Smallera victims? Just what do you think happens after… never mind.” Sara said defensively before cutting herself off midsentence. “I’ll talk to Maisy. You’re my responsibility so I should put your needs first.” Sara said with a slight hint of dejection in her voice.
