Jordan felt relieved that something was going to be done about Maisy. If she had her way he would have next to no rights at all. He was sure of it. These situations made Jordan regret that he never took this seriously. Smallara was just something they talked about on TV. Now as he looked up at the giant teen before him he knew better. It was far from a fairytale or a conspiracy. He would give anything to go back in time and tell himself the scary reality.
Jordan sighed as he watched the gigantic teen Maisy return. He looked over at Sara waiting for her to say something when he noticed how reserved both Sara and Maisy were. A shadow loomed over the table. A conservatively dressed woman stood on the opposite end of the table.
“Ms. Reeves, Ms. Williams was explaining to me that you two were planning on changing your project. Is that correct?” Jordan remembered teachers like her. She was one of those you will address me with respect and I will address you in the same manner. It was always supposed to be a mutual respect thing. However, it always came off as awkward as only one person truly had any authority. Everyone else was just playing house so to speak.
“Yes, Mrs. Weller,” Sara said.
“I suppose that’s fine,” Mrs. Weller said as she eyed the two girls before noticing Jordan on top of the table. “Oh, I am sorry. I was unaware Ms. Reeves had brought you to class with her.” Mrs. Weller said her tone becoming friendly as she looked at Jordan.
“I checked him in with Ms. Brooks in homeroom,” Sara said defensively.
“Yes, this is all still quite new. I’m sure you did. The system must be slow to update. Just let me grab an updated roster” Mrs. Weller said without missing a beat. The friendly tone was replaced instantly with her firm-sounding teaching voice. Mrs. Weller briefly walked away to her desk before returning to the table.
“I show here Jordan Reeves the charge of Sara Reeves correct?” Mrs. Weller asked Sara.
“Actually, it’s Jordan Fitz you see. There was a little misunderstanding.” Jordan said inserting himself into the conversation. He couldn’t help but feel uneasy as responded. It almost felt like he was speaking out of turn.
“Well, do you belong to Sara or not? I was under the impression she was your registered guardian.” Mrs. Weller said
“Well she is but I’m Jordan Fitz you see,” Jordan responded.
“Then there is no mistake Mr. Reeves.” Mrs. Weller said making sure to emphasize Mr. Reeves to get her point across. “I’m sure you understand that you are her charge now.”
