Chloe and Sara walked towards the door of the cafeteria not saying anything until they pushed the heavy blue doors open and listened to them slam shut.
“Okay, so what’s going on? Why did you want to sit near the window in the cafeteria? We always sit outside? ” Chloe asked as they walked down the hallway.
“No reason,” Sara said
“Riiighhht, you wanted to sit near Sadie. Didn’t you?” Chloe asked in a way that wasn’t really a question.
“Why would I do that? We don’t even get along, but Sadie and I have a mutual understanding. She leaves me alone and I leave her alone.” Sara countered
“Oh I can think of one little reason,” Chloe said as they rounded the corner and she leaned up against the wall crossing her arms.
“Then share with the class. Why would I want to eat lunch inside? If I was forced to answer I would say it was out of concern for my little charge. Lots of birds and bugs out there for such a small person.” Sara said.
“Maybe, but if I had to wager a guess. You haven’t told Jordan the full picture yet as he seems a little clueless. So I figure as someone who has known you and been your best friend for nearly your entire life. Would say, you don’t want to tell him. Just like you don’t want to tell Ellie about the real reason you and Kaitlyn had a fallout.” Chloe said
“Ugh, fine. I just wanted Jordan to see how good he has it with me. I wanted him to see how Sadie treats people. As he is still going around acting like he’s a regular person. I need him to see that he’s not and things aren’t going back to how they were on Friday for him.”
“You do realize he is a person though. He does have rights, Sara. It’s pretty natural for him to think he still has them as he does. Just because he is smaller doesn’t mean he loses them.” Chloe asserted.
“I’m not saying he is not a person. You know I don’t think like that. I only took him in because he was too nice to go to the hospital.” Sara said
“Maybe, you should tell him that and he would understand more.”
“He’s better off not knowing the truth. Look at what the president wants to do. Does he really need to know all that? It’s not like he can change anything. Especially now in a world where my cat is a predator to him.” Sara argued.
“Don’t even get me started. I hope that clown isn’t re-elected. His whole platform is inequality for anyone under a foot.” Chloe said.
“If I see another campaign ad that says freedom begins at 19 inches I’m going to puke. But seriously Chloe. You can’t tell him what would have happened. If that makes me the bad guy then so be it.” Sara said
“Fine, I have to get to class anyway. But text me after school” Chloe added before walking away.
