Jordan reluctantly turned around as they continued putting on their gym clothes. Even on the bench, they were still much taller than him. Jordan wondered when it would be expected. However, as he looked beside him to see Stephanie, who was sitting on the same bench as him, he realized this would never be normal as he looked at her hulking frame.
“So, like, are you keeping body hottie?” Jordan heard the girl, who he didn’t know, ask as she took a seat in front of her locker.
“Yeah, of course, I’m keeping him. What kind of question is that, Stacey?” Sara said.
“I just mean it’s like a lot of money to file the paperwork and stuff. Even if it’s a family member, it’s thousands of dollars, and not everyone would pay that just to keep their neighbor.”
“Well, I mean, you could illegally keep someone. But, if a person was going to do that, I doubt you would take the little person outside your home.” Stephanie said.
“Well, if you register as a guardian, you have to do it by the book, or else you lose your license. Plus, that’s just horrendous. Those stories you hear about…” Sara said, stopping herself as she looked down at Jordan. “Well, I paid fees. Well, my mom did, and I had to beg her as she was pretty against the idea. I’m pretty sure she is counting Body Hottie as my birthday gift. Even with her discount for working at the hospital, I guess it was still a bit over thirty thousand.”
“You paid how much? Why was I never told of this.” Jordan shouted, placing his hands on his hips.
“Why would you be? You consented to me being your guardian. So why would I come to you with a financial matter? That’s not anything you’re involved with. Plus, I’ve been through all your accounts, and you don’t have that kind of money anyways. All your money was tied up in the house and the car. You really don’t need to know all the financial stuff anymore.” Sara said in a very matter-of-fact tone. Jordan was taken aback a bit by the bluntness of it all.
“But..” Jordan managed to get out before Sara cut him off.
“Shhh, you’re my little man now. You don’t need to worry about the things you have no control over, okay?” Sara said. “There are still very important decisions that you get to make,” Sara said in an unintentionally condescending tone. “Let me grab your gym clothes.”
