After Sara’s mother had dropped off a basket full of clean clothes in Sara’s room, Jordan heard Sara’s voice. However, it was at least another hour before Sara entered her room. He could hear hushed voices as she closed the door and turned on the lights.
Jordan felt blinded as the bedroom lights of Sara’s room provided more light than he had seen in several hours. He blinked his eyes as his vision slowly returned to him. He was surprised to see not only Sara but Chloe.
“Sorry, you had to wait so long. I thought my parents were never going to go to bed.” Sara said as she made sure the door was closed all the way.
“Aww, he has a little home. Why is he jumping up and down, though? I can’t really hear him, though.” Chloe asked as she looked down at Jordan inquisitively.
“Oh, he’s grounded right now for getting me in trouble. He’s thinking about what he did and how he can be a better little man. Assuming he behaves, I was going to let him out after school tomorrow and see what he has to say about his actions.
“Oh.. he’s not going to class tomorrow?” Chloe asked as she looked down at Jordan.
“No, that’s a privilege. But I’m sure you didn’t sneak over to talk about Body Hottie.” Sara said
“You know why I’m here, stupid,” Chloe said
“I still like to hear it, though,” Sara said.
“You told Ellie today, right? That way, we don’t have to sneak around as much.” Chloe asked as she looked down at Jordan and tapped her finger against the glass wall of his habitat. Feeling the thickness of the glass, she understood why she couldn’t hear his voice.
“Ummm, about that,” Sara said sheepishly.
“Sara! You promised. I get that you aren’t ready to tell your parents yet. But you can’t keep this from Ellie, and you know how much she hates having things kept from her.”
“I-I know. I was going to tell her. I really was. It was just then my mom was here, and she was upset about the car. Then she was upset about Tamara, and then I was getting a whoopin’,” Sara said as she scooted closer to Chloe.
“Fine, but you’re telling her tomorrow. First thing, before school.” Chloe said, “What I really want to know, though, is what happened between you and Kaitlyn? You aren’t having second thoughts, are you?” Chloe asked as her eyes drifted down to Jordan.
“Kaitlyn and I broke up. You know that. You were a big part of that. We’re done; it seemed like maybe she wanted to get back together, but I’ve moved on. I’m all yours now. I told her as much in the bathroom when we got into it. Stop worrying; it’s not like you to be so insecure.” Sara said to Chloe.
“You’re not the only one risking everything for this relationship. But I will try to stop worrying, though. It will just be easier when we are on our own. Just you and me, maybe a cute little condo overlooking downtown. I have my trust, and you have your streams and stuff.”
“Well, there’s Body Hottie too. Even though I’m mad at him right now, he’s still my little man.”
“Well, I assumed you’d bring him. I mean, we could even convert that old fish aquarium I had in my room. You know, that 20-gallon one. We could totally set that up in the living room for him. He’d have so much more space. We could carpet it and retrofit it together. It would be a fun little project to make a self-sustaining home for him.” Chloe said
