Sara had left Jordan with more questions than answers as they walked into her therapist’s office. He wanted to barrage her with questions but knew this wasn’t the time or place.
As they reached the receptionist’s desk, Sara set Jordan down on the desk as she signed in. The young-looking receptionist looked at him briefly and waved.
“He’s so cute. How long have you had him? I don’t remember you having one last week when you came in.” She said
“Yeah, I just got him this weekend. He’s definitely a cutie. Sara said, looking down at Jordan with a bit of a smirk.
“He looks to be about my sister’s age. If you ever want to arrange a playdate, let me know. I’ve been looking to socialize her a bit to make her feel more normal.
“That’s so sweet. We will keep that in mind. This little guy is pretty busy, though, and he just caught Smallera this weekend. So you know how that goes.” Sara said sweetly.
“Totally; Dr. Evans is all ready for you.” The receptionist said as Sara walked into the doctor’s office.
“Sara, hi, and it looks like you have a little friend with you today.”
“Hi, Dr. Evans. Yeah, this is Body Hottie. He’s my emotional support underbred. I got a little companion just like you wanted.” Sara said, sitting down.
“I-I see. I was expecting a dog or a cat.” Dr. Evans said, sitting down across from Sara. “But this should work nicely. So how has it been going for you?” Dr. Evans asked as Sara lounged in the chair, kicking her legs over the armrests and letting Jordan lay on her stomach.
“It’s been great, Dr. Evans. I-I wasn’t a believer, but I’ve really tried to give this a fair shake, you know, and I think this is exactly what I needed. It’s been so hard to come to grips with everything where I feel so different, and I’ve been so scared to tell my best friend, Ellie, about the fact that I like girls the way she likes guys. I mean, I’ve dated guys in the past, and I still have an attraction to some guys. But I know my lane. I just was worried she would be upset with me and mad that I didn’t tell her. That I kept this from her. Then when you add in, I’m dating a mutual friend who we both have been friends with forever. I was just so scared.
“That’s normal to feel that way, but it’s always scary to open yourself up to a situation that you can’t control. As we’ve been discussing. You can’t control everything.” Dr. Evans said.
“I know, and with Body Hottie here. I really felt the courage to be able to tell her as I knew no matter what, I’d always have him. As he needs me. He wouldn’t be able to survive without my help. So knowing that he’d be there, I was able to tell her and my other friend Steph who kind of knew, but I tried lying to cover it up.” Sara said as her hand came down on top of Jordan. Sara gently stroked him, massaging his miniature body with her hands as she continued to talk with Dr. Evans.
“And how did they take this news? Was it better or worse than you imagined?” Dr. Evans asked.
“They were both so supportive and happy for Chloe and me. It was nice to be able to be myself, you know. I know this Smallera pandemic is horrible, and I feel bad for everyone not immune. But I also feel thankful because it’s really helped me be able to move forward. Is that wrong?” Sara asked as she continued to gently massage Jordan with her hands. She could feel that he was enjoying it with how his muscles were relaxing, but she also liked how it allowed her to release her own stress. It was like he was her living stress ball. She knew she would have to keep that tidbit to herself.
“Adversity brings about change, and change isn’t always bad. It doesn’t make you a bad person to acknowledge an event you had no control over as being bad while personally recognizing how personal good came from it.” Dr. Evans said.
