“I’m sorry. I’m not getting chipped like some kind of dog. Tell her, Sara.” Jordan said confidently as she leaned back in the massive examination chair.
“Well….I mean, we didn’t come here with this in mind. However, it does seem like a good idea. If something happens to be able to get your status quickly could be the difference between life and death.”
“Yes, not to mention if he is lost or stolen and brought to a hospital, police station, etc., by law, we have to check anyone with Smallera for a chip. If they are reported as lost or stolen, we contact the guardian and, if applicable, the authorities.” Dr. Wilson explained to the two.
“Or..just hear me out. I could just say I’m Sara’s because I can speak.” Jordan argued.
“In cases of abductions, the tiny victim is often in a situation where they aren’t able to or don’t feel confident enough to speak out. This circumvents that while also ensuring no harm comes to you.”
“Sara, don’t fall for this. They just want to make a sale.” Jordan said, hoping to persuade her.
“The chip and procedure are actually free. It’s funded by the government to protect people like you.” Dr. Wilson said towards Jordan.
“I think we’re going to do it. I’m sorry, Jordan. I need to know you’re safe. No precaution is too much. Free or paid.” Sara said, looking up at Dr. Wilson. Jordan immediately saw the error in his trade with Sara. He only asked to be informed and kept in the loop of everything. He didn’t specifically ask for the final say on medical decisions. Sara still held the final card in this situation. As everyone viewed her as the authority figure between the two of them.
“You’re making a wise choice. We do have a tiny technician on staff. So let me just go fetch her. While I was out, I noticed you hadn’t gotten him a collar yet. We do have several available here if you are interested. It’s not mandated yet, so it is an optional add at this time. The collars allow for detailed tracking, quick visual identification, and a plethora of other features.
“Sara, this is where I put my foot down,” Jordan said as he crossed his arms, looking at the giant teen. Sara smiled at Jordan, puffing up his chest, trying to look tough.
“I think the chipping and shots are enough for now,” Sara said as Dr. Wilson nodded and left.
“My widdle man looked so adorable trying to show me how strong and independent he is,” Sara said as she ruffled his hair with her finger and smiled at him.
Jordan slunk down a bit, feeling good that he at least fended off the collar. He didn’t like that his bravado and tough stance were completely lost on her. Sara merely thought it was a cute display. He wanted more than anything to step out of the pet shadow he was stuck in.
“I’m willing to respect your wishes, but If you start getting delusions of grandeur and running off on your own. I won’t hesitate to reconsider the collar. I think you would be so adorable with a little collar.” Sara said as she leaned back in the chair.
“I would not be adorable. It would be best that you remember that.” Jordan said as he turned his back to Sara, not wanting to face her. As soon as his back was turned, he exhaled and let his shoulders slump a bit. While he felt relieved that she was respecting his wishes and he is remaining uncollared. As he ran his hands along his neck, he wondered for how long.
