Sara reached down toward Jordan. The familiar sight of her hands moving downward at him was no longer as nerve-wracking as it was before. It was yet another sign to him that was becoming normal. That he was getting more used to his giant teenage guardian who was now ensuring his survival.
“I’m just going to grab you this time, okay?” Sara said as her hand approached. Jordan appreciated the warning so he could get his body into position. He was always afraid of getting his arms pinned in an unfortunate position.
Sara’s hand swiftly swirled around Jordan like a spirling storm as he was lifted from her desk with ease with a single hand. Sara grabbed the AirPods Jordan hand cleaned and looked over them briefly before closing the case.
“Good Job, Thank you,” Sara said making sure to praise Jordan for his work before walking over to an open spot on the floor and setting Jordan down.
“What’s going on now?”
“Hold your horses I’m going to show you something,” Sara said as she walked over to her closet. Jordan couldn’t see what she was doing. He could only hear her moving a couple of things around.
Jordan looked around the room. The bedroom door which was tightly shut looked so far away. It was odd how such a short distance was now so far for him. The door looked to be a pretty good distance away from his current vantage point. He wasn’t sure how things translated to his scale. The more he thought on it if a single inch was the new foot to him and while he wasn’t sure the size of this bedroom he guestimated 200 square feet and there are 12 inches in a foot. The bedroom would appear to be 2400 feet (60.96 meters) which would make it a little bit under a half a mile in size. Although he knew all the numbers were speculative it was still astounding. Nothing of note would be what he would consider a short distance away.
Sara’s room was a place Jordan was going to have to grow very accustomed to. Although even if he wanted to run he wasn’t even sure where he would run too. His escapades in Dayton’s yard had proven that. Running aimlessly in this oversized world was not wise. He was lucky to escape with his life. While his pride didn’t like the idea that he had to rely on Sara. It was his only true chance at survival. Especially when you’re tiny in a world of Dayton’s around every corner. Sara wasn’t the perfect guardian probably not even the best guardian in the world as far as belief structure and compatibility. However, she was far better than many of the realistic possibilities to him.
It was easy to dwell on perfect scenarios and ideal situations but Jordan was old enough to realize such fairy tales and fantasies are just that. The ideal situation wasn’t any more likely to come than the odds of him returning to normal.
Jordan knew this was his best opportunity for any semblance of happiness. Plus unlike most people, Sara actually wants to be a guardian and assumed the responsibility willingly. It wasn’t thrust upon her. He knew his friends meant well in the short term. But, when it came down to it. None of them truly would want to care for him for the rest of their life. They had their own dreams, wants, and hopes to chase after. None of which was planned to be taking care of my friend. He knew at some point resentment would set in them.
