Gavin had been dating Mallory for several months. He was initially attracted to her because she was one of the most popular girls in school. Gavin also liked that because she was Korean-American she had a bit of an oriental flare about her looks which drew him to her over Maisy his other candidate. Since he was on the football team and one of the main reasons they were winning it only seemed right that he had one of the best girls at his side.
What he didn’t know when he started dating her was that she was a bit clingy. Every night she wanted to do something or be together. Sometimes he just wanted to spend time with boys Damian, Matt, Brad, and Sara playing Call of Duty or just doing some dumb shit. However, Mallory kept wanting to pull him away and it was really starting to get in the way of everything.
However, sometimes fate has a way of intervening in one’s life in very unexpected ways. Which is exactly what happened in this case to Gavin.
“Are you listening, Gavin? Good!” Mallory responds in answer to her own question not giving Gavin the opportunity to respond.
“Like I was saying, you are so lucky that I’m still willing to be your girlfriend. A lesser girl would have left you. So I hope you appreciate my loyalty to you and us. Nothing has to change between us just because of…” Mallory said her voice trailing off before pausing briefly while her eyes flicker down at her diminutive boyfriend.
“Let’s call it your disability I guess. Oh, speaking of things not changing. The field was super muddy today for practice. I don’t get why coach sends us out there when it’s like that. So I’m going to need you to be a dear and get the mud out from between the cleats. You know I would do it myself but I just got these nails done. Can you believe just a simple dip with a single color was $70? They look so cute though don’t they?” Malloy said as she admired her nails briefly before looking down at her boyfriend.
“They look-” Gavin managed to say before Mallory interjected.
“Great, I know they do. You were so sweet to pay for it. I appreciate how much you are really trying to make this work. You would have never come with me to get my nails done before. Speaking of which when you do my feet tonight I can’t have the polish streaky. What would people say? So you can just remove it and do it again tonight while I do my homework. Then we can look over your stuff. Since it’s remedial, it shouldn’t take too long.” Mallory said as she applied some lipgloss before looking at herself intently in the mirror.
“I’m sorry were you saying something? I didn’t mean to talk over you. Your voice is just so quiet now babe.” Mallory said before putting her lipgloss away.

The Not-as-good-as-she-thinks-she-is-but-still-better-than-I-could-ever-hope-for girlfriend, Mal is in my opinion a better choice for guardian than Sara, but, if I was in this universe I think I’d just be immune to be honest.
Gavin thought that as well but he turned out to not be immune. So you never know.
Mallory may be different if she was your guardian but you weren’t dating her. But, we haven’t seen much of her around anyone but Gavin. So it’s hard to definitively say.
are you saying Gavin thought he was immune? did he get a test that came back with an inaccurate result? are false immunities canon?
She made Jordan call her “Miss Bak” which seemed really weird and arrogant, especially because she casually called him by a demeaning nickname in the same beath she demanded respect she hadn’t earnt from him something I can’t see her doing to a tallie, she’s definitely seems kinder to Gavin than she is to other underbreds and the fact that they were dating definitely helped with that, (holy shit, Gavin dodged a bullet not picking Maisy).
No, you said you think you would be immune in the Smallara world. Gavin thought the same thing that he would have been immune but it turned out he wasn’t.
nothing as diabolical or in error like your thinking. Just he thought he would be immune as the people around him all are. He turned out to not only not be immune but then got infected.
The implication (and joke) was I’d get to pick, a luxury I know isn’t actually available to citizens of this world.
So did he not get tested just assuming he’d be ok? were his parent’s conspiracy theorist like Jordan’s?
False results would be fun to see, especially if it came from Smallara evolving to now shrink more people, or the older testing method were just less reliable, just to see the panic on the faces of the Tallie’s who gave the underbreds a hard time, lol
well, he got tested and knew he wasn’t immune but going in he thought he would be fine as all his friends were tested and they were immune.
We’ve seen multiple times now when characters talk about underbreds like they were always genetically different and just “hiding.” Would people have called Gavin an underbred even before he shrank?
Closest I could find was in chapter 163 Sara said about Charity Stevens “She’s not even Immune but sure as hell acts like it,” This could imply she expects certain things from preshrunks, which may result in calling her an underbred prior to shrinking, but it could also just be that she had pre existing distain for the girl that she was using what she knew to make better insults.
Good pull. That was the only current reference but other days will delve further into this fact as well.
The above passage you are referring too. I would say both are true.
Thanks, that’s the benefit of re reading I guess, I’d say I’m pretty interested in this character rocking up as I’d like to see how Sara interacts with someone knowing they could shrink any day, I’m of the opinion that she expects a certain level of humility from pre shrunks, possibly even submissiveness, and Charity just acts like a normal teenage girl, adding to what ever beef she abs Sara had.
I reckon Sara would call Charity an underbred as pre shrunk, though I doubt she’d’ve said it to Gavin before he shrank.
Everyone is different so even in this world I wouldn’t say everyone would but there are a good number of people who would if they know. Especially in school where people can be a bit mean in general.
