“Sara!” Jordan said trying to get through to her about this Jelli business.
“Hey Kayla,” Sara said as she gave Jordan a gentle pat on the head before pushing him a bit forward
“So, it looks like a pretty simple experiment. Jordan, start pushing over that glass beaker while I read through the next section. Why don’t you start getting the chemicals ready, Kayla, and then we can have Kelli work on the stirring once Kayla brings the materials over. We should be able to bang this out in no time at all.” Sara said as she started reading through the next set of instructions.
Jordan couldn’t help but notice how he was being included in what is supposed to be her and Kayla’s work. However, he suspected this was how it was going to go. He knew better than to question Sara openly. She seemed to respond better when he brought up his concerns privately.
As Jordan approached the giant glass beaker, he still was thinking about how this would literally take Sara a second to do herself. Yes, here he was, working his butt off, pushing this thing across the table so they could dump more chemicals into it. If he was going to be assigned a job, he didn’t understand why he couldn’t be the fire starter. But he also wasn’t sure if this project even required heating anything up.
“I know what you’re thinking, Jordy. We all have jobs we have to do. It’s a group project. Okay, Kayla, we need you to add equal parts of both of those to the beaker, and then Kelli will stir it, and we are supposed to observe what happens. I’ve already answered the preliminary questions. You can just copy them to your notes, Kayla.” Sara said, setting down the worksheet.
Jordan pushed the beaker into place as he stepped away, he could hear Kayla pouring in the new chemicals. As he walked away, he looked down on at the worksheet, and in the upper righthand corner, Sara had written Sara Reeves and Jordy Reeves. Then, underneath their names, she had written Kayla and Kelli Wallace. Jordan felt a little better that he was at least being included into the group equally.
“You did very well,” Sara said as she reached down and gave Jordan several pets to show she was pleased with his actions.
“Kayla, take over mixing,” Kelli instructed her younger sister as she took a few steps back as Kayla started to stir the chemicals in the beaker. It was a simple job, but Kelli was surprised how taxing such an action was now on her arms. She had never felt so weak before as she watched Kayla easily stir the chemicals without much thought or care.
She felt a bit sickened for the first time as she wondered if this was what it was going to really be like. When she was in the facility, everything was brought down to scale. However, out here nothing is her scale. Everything is made for….People. Kayla thought with a pause. The first time she felt the idea of her not being a person crossed her mind. The thought of not being equal to her sister had become apparent.
“Are you okay, Kelli?” Sara asked, looking down at Kelli, who had a saddened look on her face.
“Yeah, yeah, I just got something in my eye, is all. You would think being this small, the dust would be too big to get into it.” Kelli said with a laugh.
1) Jordan, you need to ask what’s in it for you, you can’t be working pointlessly
2) Poor Kelli Sara’s made it apparent from Day one that Jordan’s less than her, (which hadms obviously has its own issues) but Kelli having to stumble onto these realities isn’t mulch better.
3) I’m glad Jordan’s feeling included (though I can think of countless reasons he can’t do the firestarter job he wanted)
4) I’m wondering what little safety equipment the school has. This experiment obviously doesn’t need many, but I can remember countless experiences if putting on safety glasses and protective coats during class at Sara’s age.
1) He does get a daily allotment of points just for behaving. Plus she has shown he gets an actual allowance to buy things on his iPad. So he does have things to lose potentially.
2)hadms? So are you saying Kayla should have taken a page from Sara’s book and told her.
3)Yeah him doing the firestarter job would end badly. I cant see sara allowing that happen. Not mention Ms. Weller.
4)Nothing was overtly dangerous with this one. But in like a full on chemistry class things would be different.
1) I know, but “just doing it to avoid punishment ” is bullshit, besides it likely wouldn’t hurt to ask. He needs to negotiate which tasks are “just behaving” and which are “extras he can get points for” if I were him I’d say “one task per day for free, every thing after that she pays for” she’d protest but it would definitely set her up for an list of chores rather than her randomly deciding what tasks earn him extras.
2) *Had its* (Where’s auto correct when I need it?)
It’s not that simple and like I said, Sara’s method had issues of its own. Littles are not a monolith, some people would learn in different ways, likely needs to be a mixture of being told and finding out first hand. Even though Jordan was told he still needed his escape attempt for it to properly sink in.
3) He’s clearly not thought that desire through properly. I’m glad the teacher would intervene here, I’d say she’d have a handbook or something regarding what her Little students can and can’t do.
4) yeah, I figured, I think in a more dangerous chemistry class it’d probably be something like “littles sat on the desks away from experiments” in all honesty.
Sara is probably going to give him more than one chore per day. Normally so far atleast she has told him when he could get points for things and when something is just a needs to be done.
But it would behoove him to gain clarity.
2) makes sense. I spent a few minutes trying to figure out what the intended word was. I for the gist of what you were saying but curiosity won out as to what the word was suppose to be.
3) I think he thought the desire through he clearly wants to control fire. But I can’t see Sara allowing that. She would definitely say he is to little and it’s to dangerous. As he would probably get hurt.
4) Jordan having a tiny hazmat suit.
1) I think there’s a slight chance he could negotiate down to one free chore daily, but Sara may intend him to go 5-6 free chores daily which he may get down to 2-3, lessening her intentions and benefiting himself.
Yeah, clarity is to his benefit.
3) ok, he thought ylthe desire through, justnot the logistics or the safety protocol, I reckon being a match’s length away from the fire could burn him pretty badly. Sara however would think of the dangers first.
4) that’d be hilarious, especially if all Sara’s wearing is a pair of gloves but he’s got a whole ass hazmat suit of armour or.
Oh my lord poor Kelli…… JORDAN!!!!!! Go over there and give her a hug and tell her that everything will be okay NOW!!!!!! Damn it if she starts crying again but really lets the tears fall I swear if someone doesn’t give her some love preferably Jordan or Kayla and maybe Ellie/Chole I’m afraid Sara might make it worse by saying her life was a lie or it’s okay to be pet nonsense again and emotionally won’t help and Mallory I don’t think would help either and that’s not saying much.
As for Jordan feeling included was nice granted for task that seems pointless to do but it’s nice to see him feel helpful in some ways …… Also
Sha-la-la-la-la-la
Don’t be scared (sha-la, sha-la-la ya, ya, ya)
You got the mood prepared (woah, woah)
Go on and kiss the girl
Sha-la-la-la-la-la
Don’t stop now (sha-la, sha-la-la ya, ya, ya)
Don’t try to hide it how
You want to kiss the girl
Trust the song Jordan it will go a long way ( a little Mermaid reference lol)
This would be a crappy time to make that realization. She probably could use a hug.
lol trust the process.
