Madison walked into the bank clutching her purse as she reached the teller. After a short conversation she was told a banker would be with her shortly. She could take a seat in the waiting area.
After sitting down in the waiting area Madison set her purse in her lap as she leaned back. She hadn’t relaxed for more than a couple minutes when her phone rang in her purse. She was about to open purse when she remembered she still had her airpods in and just pressed down on the stem to answer the call.
“Hello?” Madison said unsure of who it was as she was too lazy to open her purse and actually look at the caller id.
“Oh hey Kenz. I finished up with all the hospital stuff. Our parents are all shotted and chipped up. Did you get logged into the app and stuff with the account info I sent you?” Madison asked as she kicked her legs a bit absentmindedly.
“It’s neat you can see their vitals, blood pressure, all kinds of nerdy stuff for you. Me? Oh, I’m good. I just got a coffee. I needed a little pick me up and now I’m at the bank. This suuuccckkkksss though having to do everything. I think this was the real reason mom and dad caught smallara to make me do all this leg work. I’m at the bank now. Yes, I wrote everything down. I can handle this. Where are you anyway? It’s like super loud in the background.” Madison said sitting up.
“Oh, the airport. Here? You made really good time. The banker person is coming. Talk with you at home Kenz.”
“Hi I’m Erin Alliston with GeneriBank. You must be Madison Wessen” The banker said smiling as she extended her hand out.
“Hi, yes that’s me.” Madison said, grabbing her purse and standing up. She could hear her parents trying to say something but with her purse closed and the ambient noise of the bank, and the chatter going on everywhere she couldn’t make it out.
“Great, let’s just go back to my office then and we can talk about how we can help you today.” Erin said as Madison followed her back to her office. It was a room with standing glass walls right next to the waiting area she was sitting in.
“So, my sister and I need to get added to my parents bank account here.” Madison said
“Oh, are your parents here? As we’d need some consent to do such a thing. We couldn’t just add you to their account. We would also need some ID and…”
“No problem, let me get them for you.” Madison said as she opened her purse plucked both her mom and dad from the purse with one hand and set them both down on Erin’s desk.
“Oh, their littles. “ Erin said looking down at the miniature adults.
“Madison we are not just going to put you on our account.” Greg said
“Hello Mr. Wessen and Mrs. Wessen. Do you bank with us currently?” Erin said, trying to move things along as best she could.
“Well, yes, but we are not authorizing any changes to our account right now.” Greg said as Cindy nodded behind him.
“Yes, I understand that. I’m just trying to get the full picture of what is going on here.” Erin said.
“I”m sorry. I’m still new to this. I’m their guardian Madison Wessen. Here is my guardian license. They just caught Smallara yesterday, so everything is still quite new. I’m just trying to get everything in order. These are my parents Greg and Cindy Wessen. Here is their bank card.” Madison said handing the card over to banker.
“Ahh yes, I understand how these first few days can be quite stressful Mr. And Mrs. Wessen. But don’t worry let me just get you pulled up in the system here and we can start to unravel things.” Erin said as before Greg or Cindy could say anything she was typing in all the information Madison had given her to pull up their account information.
“So, I’m in cross checking the little generitech database and it looks like I’m seeing Greg and Cindy Wessen were reported as being infected with Smallara after being diagnosed a few years ago. It appears like Madison Wessen was declared your legal guardian and McKenzie Wessen is listed as the supporting guardian.”
“Well yes technically, but this is all a mistake. You see were not really littles. You see there was a mistake, and we were misdiagnosed. They had told us we were immune and sent us paperwork even though in the system were listed as being diagnosed as vulnerable.” Greg explained
“Well, it looks like it wasn’t a mistake.” Erin said looking down at the miniaturized couple
“No, wait, I’m sorry you see the paperwork they sent us wrong so we didn’t know we were vulnerable. So, we couldn’t procure any medicine or treatments.” Greg said. “So, we just temporarily set Madison as our guardian as we didn’t know we wouldn’t be able to get any treatments or medication.
“I’m so sorry Mr. And Mrs. Wessen. I can only imagine what it must be like for you both. Living unknowingly on borrowed time. Looking here it appears everything is setup and filed correctly. It looks like you have a daughter here who has a real good head on her shoulders.” Erin said smiling warmly.
“Yes, she is very bright. We are quite proud of her. But..” Greg said before Madison interjected.
“Will you still be needing my parents for anything further Ms. Alliston?” Madison asked speaking over her father.
“Well as the legal guardian you would be the executor of the account now becuase as littles they are considered invalids and not able to administer the account. so, any actions or alterations to the account you would be authorized to make.” Erin said as Madison looked down at her parents who were about to protest when Madison picked them both up and held them in midair as she grabbed her purse with her other hand set it down on the floor next to her feet before bending down and setting her parents in her the purse.
“Madison, don’t you dare, put us back-” Cindy said before Madison released them into her purse. Both parents watched the walls rise up slightly as Madison closed her purse sealing them in pitch black bubble gum scented confines of her purse once again. Both parents tried to protest as the canvas walls of the purse drooped down as they were powerless to do anything but listen.
“Sorry about that. So, like I was saying I would like to get myself and my sister McKenzie added onto the accounts.” Madison said sweetly to the banker.
“No problem. I will just grab your information and your sister’s guardian license from the Generitech records we have on file in the database here and just transfer a digital copy onto the bank account.” Erin said as Madison waited several minutes as Erin typed and clicked away on the keyboard.
“Okay Madison. I have added you and your sister to the bank accounts, house and car loans, and the brokerage accounts. Now I do have a proposal for you. Danielle who you worked with last night had flagged your account due to a potential mix-up and our Little Services Division and management reviewed the incident. As you know Generitech takes all this very seriously and would like to apologize for mistakenly sending out the wrong paperwork to your family that led your parents to believe they were immune when they were infact vulnerable. We do encourage people to check the database online but that does not excuse the sending of the wrong paperwork. Generitech’s Little Services division investigated the matter and found that what we can do is ease the burden your family is facing right now. As it’s to late to rush your family any medicine. What can be done is if you agree Generitech will pay off your family’s house loan and both car notes. You would just need to sign this form and agree that Generitech accepts no fault in the incident and agree to never bring it up again.”
“So, like I wouldn’t have to pay for the house, or the car loans?” Madison asked
“Yes, exactly, that is what is being offered.” Erin said, nodding in agreement.
“Well, can I call my sister quick? Since this involves her as well?” Madison asked.
“Sure, if you like I can call her here and put her on speaker. That way I can explain the whole arrangement to her?” Erin said
“That would be very helpful.” Madison said as she gave Erin McKenzie’s phone number and then explained the proposed deal she had just explained to Madison.
“Okay, I understand what you are proposing. “ McKenzie said. “Obviously between us in this room, mistakes were made if this kind of deal is being proposed to us. We would like to request an addendum. We would also like the property tax paid for in perpetuity. Our uncle Danny always complains about the property tax on his house. Along with a stipend to offset our families lost earning potential until we graduate college.”
“I am prepared to authorize that generitech will pay the property tax for as long as you two are in ownership of the home. I have been pre-authorized to extend if requested a stipend to move this matter along if needed. It would be at the rate of 60% of your parent’s total salary but it would be tax free.”
“Obviously, this mistake affects our future. One last thing could really help ease our suffering. We would like full ride scholarships to the school of our choosing. As our parents won’t be able to help with the educational expenses like they normally would.” McKenzie added smelling blood in the water.
“I see, that would be difficult.” Erin said sending a message to a few people at Generitech “let’s see if I can’t get this pushed through for you two. if you think this would help reduce the potential burden.” Erin said. A few minutes later she looked up from her computer. “I heard back from my superiors. The agreement would be for a full ride scholarship for any US state funded universities up to a master’s degree. If you choose to work for Generitech or a subsidiary for a period of 10 years, up to a doctorate would be paid. If you did not work the 10 years with us, you would have to pay a pro-rated difference of just the doctorate degree versus the years of service you did work. Private and foreign universities and such would not be eligible.
“Then we have a deal. If you can send me a copy of the contract to my phone I can review and sign my part then email it back to you.” McKenzie said.
“That would be great. I will send you a copy now and print out a copy for your sister to sign here in office.” Erin said.
“Will you need our parents to sign anything?” McKenzie asked.
“No, as littles they are unble to enter into agreements or hold property. Those duties fall to their guardian or guardians who are caring for them. “ Erin said.
Wow, so this clearly is a huge legal issue lol I wonder how often families got screwed over because of this. Good thing madison called her sister in cause she milked the hell out of it
Also, does the Invalidity occur upon diagnosis or upon shrinking?
Lastly, I can kinda see more of why madison treats her parents like this other than the power trip. I’ve kinda been under the impression she’s extremely conflicted with everything, but just wants her parents to accept it as soon as possible. Her sisters probably going to draw it out to get them used to being littles, and not be as forceful a out the situation, which I think is more fair as I think there is much more room for give and take between Littles and guardians, but I could see how, similar to Kayla and Kelli, if a guardian can’t be firm in most aspects, that leaves the little vulnerable too
It’s not a common occurrence which is why Generitech was willing to pay to cover it up if they agreed to monetarily fix it. As they don’t want there sterling record blemished when they could spend a little money and fix this.
Upon infection as the virus is needed as the catalyst to force the genetic changes which are making the invalid status occur.
You are correct she is conflicted and does want it accepted and over with. As they are her parents but they are littles and littles as she’s been raised and taught in school exist within a certain spot in the hierarchy and have a certain amount of power and influence which is less then hers.
So she’s kind of fighting with that. Her sister is a bit different than she is. I will leave it at that
Appreciate the clarification on when they’re invalid. So I’d imagine that, if the clerical error never occurred, Cindy and Greg would have been able to get their affairs in order and make sure madison and Mckenzie were ready to be either their guardians or their supporting guardians or something.but since eit did, generitech would technically be liable to a degree for forcing underage teens to go through this on their own.
Generitech seems to become more and more of a necessary evil the more I read. Which I like. If anything I could see them eventually pushing for making the gov give more rights to them as a mutual benefit thing in the future as they could be seen as the good guy in the public eye and still make money off Littles of they have things like their own income and health insurance.
As awalys, enjoying the stories lol world building stuff like this must be fun/difficult to keep track of XD
Its not the easiest to keep track of. But its something I’ve always wanted to do. Is just build out a world like this. So I’m just going all in.
Generitech is definitely a necessary evil of the world. They are very consumer popular which doesn’t help their rivals.
It’s still comforting knowing Chloe and her parents own it so there are at least some little oriented morals in place. Part of me has been thinking maybe generitech presented the gov with information and advisement on how to handle Littles, but the gov took a different direction then what generitech expected, which to me, explains why people like dr. Wessen, Chloe, and Erin seems to be certain to point out the labeling and handling of Littles are legislative vs their actual views
As it’s to late to rush your family any medicine. What can be done is if you agree Generitech will pay off your family’s house loan and both car notes. You would just need to sign this form and agree that Generitech accepts no fault in the incident and agree to never bring it up again.”
—————–
That really stings. They were willing to sent out medicine to compensate the mistake. If only the Daughter kept pushing for it.
On the upside it seems McKenzie has a sharper mind for these matters. At least their family will be financially secure for years to come. Still annoyed the parents were locked out of discussions.
Well Madison knew well enough to send McKenzie all the paper work regarding the situation. As her sister is better with it. It’s one of the reasons she gave up sole custody.
McKenzie secured them financially. Madison would have put them in financial ruin on her on.
Parents legally couldn’t sign anything. Madison did take them out when they were needed
Yeah…”when they were needed” Continuing to do the bare minimum. And of course the other adults don’t bat an eyelash at this treatment as it is technically legal.
Not like having 2 grown adults offering inputs or suggestions before finalizing their decisions would be helpful.
It was eerie how much I predicted McKenzie calling and Madison talking about the shots and chips. I was expecting McKenzie to get upset with Maddy for not feeding her parents.
Did my previous comment influence this part or was that by chance?
No, this season is all written. I have some renders left to do but I’ve been writing new smallara episodes and working on season 2 of Madison’s world. While thinking about doing another good girlfriend. Then working on a few things for the site itself.
I did think it was pretty good how close you got.
Next time?
—-
“Okay. I signed my copy. Are we done here?”
“Yes. I am sure your parents will be happy to know how responsible their daughters are.” Said the Ms. Allison.
“Talking about our parents? I am suprised how quiet they have been?” asked Mckenzie.
“Oh that is because I placed them in my purse.”
“Maddy!”
“What? It is not like we need them to sign anything!”
“True but I don’t think they like being there! Hang on let me check something.”
“They are fine. They love being in my purse.”
“Then explain why their vitals are showing high blood temperature and high body temperature!”
“Eh…what does that mean?”
“That means they are furious Maddy!”
“Gah. Stupid chips! Fine. When we get home we can think of an alternate way to transport them.”
—-
Madison once again regretted choosing the most expensive option for the chips.
1) Genribank enters the scene, neat.
2) Holy shit Genritech got scared, that’s like, that’s so much money they’re giving these girls over the mistake, “littles can not sue or be sued” but clearly someone fucking sued if this is the policy.
3) McKenzie certainly knew what she was doing, getting as much as she could, though in surprised she didn’t want her parents licencing fees and other expenses paid off.
4) this would have been a good thing to involve Greg and Cindy, they likely would have thought of other requests to make.
5) I love how it’s always “littles they are considered invalids” instead of “littles are invalids” cause they know littles aren’t actually invalids and are fully capable of these decisions only being stopped by the laws.
6) “supporting guardian.” Looks like Maddie did get something over her sister in all this, (other than the quality time with Mummy and Daddy).
Though looks like she’ll be here soon, next week possibly)
7) “It looks like you have a daughter here who has a real good head on her shoulders.” Maddie getting compliments such has a similar vibe to Sara receiving them.
8) “I think this was the real reason mom and dad caught smallara” Oh shit they’re caught, lol
1) yes.
2) well littles can’t but the guardians can in this situation when it’s the daughters of the parents who are also the parent.
But more so generitech is a family owned business with morals and are generally good people. So the values of Chloe and her family is this is our mistake as ultimately the buck stops with us. The people we put in place didn’t catch this so it’s our fault and this is making it right.
They could have swept it under the rug. But that’s not who Chloe and her parents are.
The other factor is generitech makes stupid amount of money.
For how seldom this happens it’s just cheaper to make it go away.
3) Madison already paid the fees with Danielle upstairs when she said she was doing financial stuff and went to her parents room and saw the brochures.
4) yeah but they also could have bogged things down arguing for their rights or want to sue and not settle.
5) yup I word it that way for that reason on purpose. I appreciate your eye to detail.
6) it’s brought more in the next episodes.
7) well Madison’s a brat but she’s smart about it. She good with people in power which is why she doesn’t get I trouble much and when she does it was said she always apologized right away and showed remorse. She’s more bratty with peers and people below her.
8) lol her entitled quip.
2) That’s more responsibility and accountability than any big business I’ve ever scene, it’s nice to think people who control American Littles are doing as well as they are.
Chloe really is princess of the littles.
And Genritech has no board members, shareholder or anyone in any position of power in the company able to oppose this?
3) true, but she could have demanded a refund, or the fees to be paid for the next year, or possibly decade.
4) That’s actually a real possibility I had considered, probably still in too much shock to look at the situation as it is.
5) at first I thought that was then just being polite, and wouldn’t button be constant, it’s every single time so t took a while for me to notice the pattern. I like the little acknowledgement even if I’m convinced so m e of these people don’t realise that’s what they’re doing.
6) yay
7) I’ve known far too many girls like that in my life, the kind who know exactly when and how to behave cunty and not get caught, bonus points if they can time it so retaliation looks unprovoked to outside observers. It’s hauntingly realistic behave, I’m impressed.
2) Generitech is 100% privately owned and operated. Chloe and her parents own 100% of the company. She is the aire to all of Generitech. So there is no stock, no boardrooms, no power plays, no shareholders. It’s just her parents on top and then one day her.
3) could have pushed for refunded fees but they are young. They were doing to good to negotiate what they got.
4) yes, looking at the situation without bias and with levelhead would be a struggle for the best of us.
5) there are a lot that probably don’t. But that’s true of general public in real life too.
7) Thanks, that’s the exact kind of person I wanted Madison to be. Glad to see I’ve been successfully capturing it.
2) That may just be the most unrealistic detail about your world. lol, though I do feel like that’s in the Homo Parvis’ best interest.
3) that’s true, inexperience wouldn’t help them here.
4) I mean it’s not Like McKenzie was, she “Smelt blood in the water” and immediately grabbed as much as she could for herself and by extension, Madison, she didn’t try to score anything for her parents that would have been the most in need of benefits IMHO.
5) Actually, it’s only been said by Genritech employees and a school teacher (Mrs Weller), both of whom were likely coached into using these terms.
7) Yeah, not my favorite kind of girl, but definitely one that exists.
2) It’s not that unrealstic. I mean Cargill is worth some 177 billion usd and they are privately owned. So, it’s not unheard of. Not common, but not unheard of.
Once it got to a point it just didn’t seem worth it to move it to the stock exchange or be beholden to anyone as they make a stupid amount of money and have a stupid amount of patents and once you get over the hump. Its just profit so to speak.
4) She knew what she was grabbing and wanted she wanted for specific reasons. Its debatable as to if it was the best course of action. But she has a method to the madness.
Oh shit your still awake?
1) Hey. I get deliveries from Cargill, (didn’t know that about them though). I guess I was comparing it to companies like Amazon or Google given it’s scale and diverse list of services.
Did Chloe’s Parents found the company?
How will it’s succession work?
Will it be split between Chloe, her sister and any other sibling she may have?
Will their spouses be brought into the fold (Can’t imagine Chloe’s Parents approving of Sara’s input into these matters)?
4) Can’t wait to learn it.
1)They are similar to an amazon or google or microsoft but are privately held with no outside influence. Generitech is a family owned and operated business.
Chloe’s parents created generitech from nothing shortly after getting married.
Chloe’s parents are well versed in Sara. As she was pushing for Lilttle Marts.
The shares upon their parents death fall to the siblings but not all shares are equal. I’m not sure if you are familar with voting shares vs non-voting shares. Chloe specifically gets voting shares where they would get non-voting shares. Its been stated and documented internally that Chloe Specifically would become the CEO. As her parents started grooming her since she was 11 or 12 teaching her the ins and outs of the business on a deeper level. She works and networks with the various heads.
The family intends to pass it down from generation to generation internally. They have mechanisms in place that prevent a sale. So if chloe has a children. One of them would suceed her.
Spouses fall similar into a royalty situation. Like if Sara and Chloe had a child who was going to assume control of Generitech. Sara could run the day to day operations of the business until their child assumed control. If Chloe and any children died. It would fall to one of Chloe’s siblings.
“No, as littles they are unble to enter into agreements or hold property. Those duties fall to their guardian or guardians who are caring for them. “ Erin said.
——-
I still can’t believe they somehow convince the public that Littles are not of sound mind and body. Anyone with common sense can see a Little is just as intelligent as normal people. A Little can comprehend and even defeat normal people in games and wits. What BS research and data did they concoct to justify these law changes?
Sighs. And what about marriages? Are you suggesting their marriages status is removed and going forward are unable to consent to being married? Sounds like Gavin is shewed.
Or worse Guardians arranged forced marriages without the consent of the Littles.
It’s a upsetting to me as well, but it’s also something that does happen in real life to physically disabled people, so I don’t see it as put of the question.
I think it’d be seen as beastiality to do it with a little, so I’m curious how it works in cases where one spouse shrinks and the other does not. Is the marriage annulled?
Lottles getting forced umti arranged marriages in order to underbreed is a real possibility.
The actual license part of marriage is for the tax break. You can’t actually stop someone from being married and spending the rest of their lives together.
So marriage between two littles would just need consent of the two littles. As the actual tax break portion that comes with being legally married would not be applicable.
So the church recognizes the marriage but the law does not? I still can’t believe anyone religious would support these laws.
It would be no different then same sex marriages throughout much of history and even today. In the U.S. some states allow it others to do not but the ones that do are very recent yet people of same sex have been together and considered married to one and another for hundreds of years of human history.
People believing things aren’t true isn’t that hard believe. Donald Trump had a significant portion of the U.S. believing climate change wasn’t real. As just one more recent example.
But leaders throughout all of history have made people believe false facts. You also can’t 100% compare what would happen in our society to this society as their are differences.
It’s not like their is some counterforce providing different information. The school system is teaching and reinforcing things about littles place.
The government has a leader who is taking an anti-little stance and designing laws and policies around that has been built and reinforced those ideals throughout the fabric of the country.
As we learned in smallara proper the executive branch has dramatically more power in this timeline then in reality. As the judicial and legislative branches work beneath and for the executive branch.
Yeah. This dystopian clearly has a different history to us to justify these laws.
Historically things happened different and while things are similar and went on a similar trajectory some things are slightly different to vary different.
I’ve said prior if I had to do it all over again. I would probably just wholly create a new world and spend the time setting up the society. But, I hadn’t ever done anything like this before. So this is also very much learning as I go when it comes to worldbuilding on this level.
Yeah. Hmmm…it would be interesting if this outbreak happened centuries ago. Without the convenience of today’s technology I would better believe how the government could convince the public how the Littles are lesser beings and Invalides.
A great twist I didn’t see happening so fast. – My thoughts;
As small a gesture as it was and regardless of their new “legal” standing in life, I had always assumed Greg and Cindy still had some sort of “bargaining” power to bring to the table as they were the financial experts of the household. I’m sure the girls are bright, but between taxes, loans, mortgage, escrow etc. etc. The parents would have been an absolute asset to the family moving forward.
I had assumed this family was on their own and would slowly have to endure the hardships of moving, downgrading, figuring out living arrangements, finances, assistance options, and everything else. I felt that once McKenzie entered the picture and Madison got this power trip out of her system, things would start to level out.
But now… now things are very different. Not only is all the debt paid, the girls are basically set for life. The parents mere existence is not only considered invalid, their un-importance in any aspect has become established.
The girls have basically won the lottery at expense of the parents misfortune, who are now simply reduced to pets. All while being belittled, mocked and tossed aside by Madison. More of a hindrance on the girls lives then anything. I hope that at least McKenzie will at least start to spoil them with all that stipend money they’ll be receiving.
Madison, I’m sure would be content with just leaving “well enough” alone and moving forward doing the bare minimum, while paying as little attention to the parents as she can manage. She probably feels empowered and is taking the credit for this financial outcome.
I wonder if the parents will make mention of the “too late to rush medicine” that Erin let slip. Since Madison was so nonchalant about the whole thing at the start, now knowing there may have actually been a chance, had it not been for Madison. Something to hold over her head forever. Perhaps if McKenzie were present things would have been different.
Certainly hopeless for Gregg and Cindy, while Madison is in the picture anyway. I’d like to see the Guardian status reverted to McKenzie being primary while Madison takes the back seat.
I had similar expectations of the family’s future.
What really sucks is I should be happy this family is going to be financial secured. This should be a family victory. Yet Madison robbed the parents of being included. The ‘shared’ victory becomes hollowed as McKenzie was the only true ‘player’ in this financial bargain battle. Worst I can imagine Madison taking most of the credit for the win.
This was a great post with interesting thoughts.
I think your assessment of their insights in regards to financial matters is yet to come. As while the property tax is paid for they still have to file forms each year. They still have to do taxes each year which they have never done.
They would want to put a portion of the stipend into brokerage account for stocks and future gains all of which they have little exposure with. So I’m sure their parents will be helpful with those and similar pursuits of adulting which would be knew. Yes things you can figure out but others a guiding hand is helpful.
The fact that there was a mistake with how they were informed of the infections deffinately helps them. As otherwise yes they would probably have to move. Their was a version where they went down a different path and moved in with family. But I wanted to keep the amount of characters in this tale smaller. More focused on the immediate family and their journey. The other factor being I wanted the first season to be shorter which an ending point. As it was already longer and much of that would bog down the flow a bit abeit interesting it would delay Smallara proper which some have started asking for.
You are correct with madison the bare minimum is often good enough in those situations. Especially when its a bit out of her depth.
McKenzie creates a different dynamic in the house.
Thanks for the detailed reply, glad the parents will retain some level of mutual respect in regards to their money knowledge at least. Investing is a good idea.
Interesting this story could have gone the other way.
