A couple weeks had passed as Dayton, Sydney and the rest of the class had slowly adjusted to life as a junior guardians as they worked through the training classes. Dayton held Thomas in her hand as she still found herself trying to get little walking down. She had seen Sara do it and she made it look effortless.
“Where did you say Sydney was going tonight after class?” Thomas said, breaking the silence.
“Ugh, I can’t believe you even brought that up!” Dayton exclaimed, rolling her eyes. “Honestly, it’s not like it matters where Sydney’s going, okay? And seriously? I’m your guardian, remember? Any time away from me is, like, a total privilege. Get it? A PRIVILEGE.”
She let out a soft sigh, which, due to the size difference between them, Thomas could hear every bit of annoyance in that sigh over his question.
“Oh, I didn’t mean to cause any offence,” Thomas said. “I just meant that she had mentioned wanting to crack on with a few things.”
“Well, you’re going to be working with me and hanging out with me. This is my weekend with you as well. You just might come home with me tomorrow. I’m undecided if I want to pick up any weekend classes.” Dayton said, rolling her eyes. “Ugh, I mean, do you even get how lucky you are to spend time with me? Honestly, I haven’t made up my mind yet.” She let out another sigh, making sure Thomas could hear every bit of her irritation.
“Oh yeah, every single bloody second just keeps reminding me what a lucky sod I am,” Thomas drawled.
“Ugh, you know I hate it when you speak all British,” Dayton said, rolling her eyes dramatically. “Like, seriously? You’re not a houseboy anymore. You should speak American. It’s the least you could do. Honestly, how hard is that?” She let out an exaggerated sigh, ensuring Thomas could hear every bit of her disdain.
“Sorry Thomas said, Truly, with each passing moment, the overwhelming sense of blessing washes over me,” Thomas said, dripping with sarcasm.
“Was that so hard?” Dayton snapped, rolling her eyes. “If you’re going to get all sarcastic with the comebacks, at least do it properly. That’s all I’m asking. Ugh.” She let out an exasperated sigh, making sure Thomas felt her irritation.
Dayton headed towards her dorm not saying anything further as she closed the door before crouching down and placing Thomas on the floor. She had a slightly annoyed look on her face but Thomas had trouble reading Dayton generally speaking.
“Why am I on the floor?” Thomas asked as Dayton walked over to her bed and sat down as she continued to stare at Thomas.
“I figured you’d want to see the world from your natural perspective in life. You are a underbred. It shouldn’t be weird for you to have to look up at me. This is how you are intended to view the world. I knew Sydney was being to soft on you. I tried to tell her. But Shes probably one of those who would dress her dog up in clothes. I like her as a person, but her guardian style leaves a bit to be desired. She’s a Nicole about these things.” Dayton added.
“A Nicole, eh? Never heard of it. Must be one of those new American fads, like calling crisps ‘chips’.”
“Nicole is a person. She’s like my best friend. She’s already a guardian but her sister is an underbred like you,” Dayton said, her voice dripping with condescension. “I keep telling her she needs to provide a little tough love. But she won’t have it. I do my best to guide her but sometimes you just have to let people make mistakes, you know. I mean, I guess you wouldn’t, as you’re not people. You just get to do what you’re told. Your kind needs a guiding hand.” Dayton said before letting out a smug sigh and pointed at the ground next to her. “Thomas, come.”
“Oi, you think you can just tell me what to do? Get a grip, alright? You ain’t exactly my mum, are you? We’re meant to be, like, a team, innit? More like working stuff out together, not you barking orders, yeah?”
“I’m not going to have you mess up my guardian training. When I say come, I expect you to come.” Dayton said as Thomas walked over to her.
“Listen, I ain’t trying to mess things up for you, alright? My whole rep rests on how you do. Basically, if you bomb the tests and training stuff, I take the hit too. You know what that means, right? No promotion to ‘Little Manager’ or even ‘Assistant to the Assistant’ for me. So, let’s just say we both have a vested interest in you doing well, yeah?”
“What’s a little manager?” Dayton asked.
“In my department they are the littles who assign other littles to various departments based on their test results. Realistically if i can get through four or five little classes I could put in for Little Lead of the training here and then make my way into the little management. Generitech treats us pretty well considering.” Thomas said
“Well then as long as you listen to me you should get high marks.” Dayton said as she placed a bunch of pillows on the ground making a small trail across the room. “So, if you fall you won’t get hurt or whatever.” Dayton said trying not to make a big deal out of the considerate act, but she knew Thomas had noticed but chose not to say anything.
Dayton practiced little walking for the next couple hours. She had gotten down little walking with Thomas on her shoulder where he wasn’t falling any longer as long as she didn’t have to do anything. If she had to bend down or turn or take any extra action Thomas would bounce around enough and normally end up falling.
“Sara does this with Jordan like its nothing. She could probably do a backflip with Jordan on her shoulder. You must be doing something wrong. Although its hard to believe that a little as dumb as Jordy would have more skill then a trained underbred like you unless your training is really scraping the bottom of the barrel.” Dayton added.
“I come highly trained thank you very much. You can’t compare me to some store little.” Thomas said defensively. “Who’s to say you aren’t doing something wrong?” Thomas argued back. It wasn’t until Dayton narrowed her eyes slightly that he gave pause. He could see her mind working as she focused on him. She was barely a teenager in any other reality Thomas doubted he would even notice her. This however wasn’t one of those realties.
“Sorry, I – I might’ve cocked up what I said.” Thomas added feeling nervous as Dayton’s eyes had a predatory glint in them. The air around him felt like it suddenly cooled but he was sure it had to have been his imagination. Air temperature doesn’t just drop suddenly in a room and certainly not in a concentrated spot.
Thomas never had a chance to think further as Dayton’s fingers coiled around his body her grip was firm applying enough pressure to immobilize him. The bravado and sarcasm drained from Thomas as he was lifted from the ground with an ease that was a painful blow to his ego.
Dayton’s eyes practically bore a hole through him. Thomas could feel her warm breath blow across him as she exhaled. A nervousness he hadn’t felt before enveloped his meager body as he looked at the giant. The realization hit him that this was not like the training books and classes depicted.
“I should ask if I can buy you when I graduate. You know make you my personal underbred. I’m sure you’d like that, wouldn’t you Thomas? What higher goal in life could you have than being my pet. Surely that would be a better life then little management.” Dayton said with her voice dripping in condescension.
“I-I’m not for sale. I’m a training little. We aren’t for public.” Thomas said in a bit of terror.
“It’s all about who you who know. I have upper management on speed dial.” Dayton said before grabbing her phone and pressing button. “Hi Chloe, its Dayton. Yeah, no emergency I actually am at your new training center right now. Yeah the one downtown. I’m actually with one of the training littles Thomas just a sec Chloe.” Dayton said before looking at Thomas. “What’s your last name Thomas?”
“Turner” Thomas said stuttering slightly.
“Thanks, Thomas Turner is my training little. He just wanted to say a few words to you. It would mean so much to him to speak to THE Chloe Gracewood.” Dayton said as she held her phone next to Thomas with it on speaker.
“M-m-m-m-misss Gracewood. It’s an honor. I never imagined getting to speak you. You’ve given me such an opportunity here.” Thomas said then going on to explain he was with the little training program.
“You’re welcome, Thomas. I’m so happy you to hear our little training program is going so well. The success and hope for a better tomorrow can only happen with the help from even our smallest workers.” Chloe added.
“Thanks Chloe. I’m sorry to bother you at this hour. It just meant so much to him to even have a moment of your time. I couldn’t help but try to make his dreams come true and get to speak with you. Sara has really been teaching me how privileged i am and how I should be more thankful and look for ways to give back and prop up others. So, I thought this would be a good chance to take her words and lessons to heart.” Dayton said sweetly as she looked down at Thomas.
“I know you and Generitech put a lot of value into your training littles here, but I would just love the chance to provide Thomas here a good forever home. Is there any way you could maybe help me out. Yeah, that would be great. I’m sure everyone involved would be happy about that. Okay, tell Sara I say hi and I look forward to seeing her in a couple weeks.” Dayton said before hanging up the phone.
Thomas felt sick as his face turned a shade of white as he looked at Dayton while he was still clutched in her hand. The entirety of his being held easily by her fingertips. His existence is nothing more than a trifle to her.
Dayton smiled as she looked at Thomas’s collar. Fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me. Dayton thought, understanding the saying her mother used from time to time for the first time.
“No need to thank me, Thomas. I know how honored you must have been to speak with Chloe Gracewood. I’ve known her for years now.” Dayton said for Thomas’s benefit and whoever was on the other end. As she was sure dropping Chloes would peek someone interest. She was going to use every advantage she could. As she was going to be a guardian and make Sara proud of her. Besides it wasn’t as if she was lying. She had known Chloe for years through Sara.
As Dayton set Thomas back down his stomach was still in knots. Looking up at the titanic sized teen he was at a loss to say for the first time. He didn’t dare cross her. Yet the idea of becoming her little filled him with terror.
“Don’t worry Thomas. I know after speaking with Chloe we are both going to get what we want as I’m sure we will be trying our best. We should also keep this between ourselves. I wouldn’t want it to get out that we spoke with Chloe. I mean what would everyone think, and Chloe doesn’t like the attention. I’m sure they trained you on secrets, right?” Dayton said with a smirk as Thomas nodded his head.
“Great let’s get back to training then. I don’t know about you, but I feel like we’ve really bonded today.” Dayton said
Dayton yawned as she awoke the next morning. She looked over at her nightstand where she had left Thomas and his miniature bed only to see him gone. Looking over at Syndey she saw she was already awake and practicing.
Dayton and Sydney got along pretty well and had started forming a friendship. However, one thing she didn’t like was just how much of a morning person Sydney was. In Dayton’s eyes the hours before 10am didn’t even exist. So having to function in them was bad enough. It should be considered forced child labor and punished as such for forcing her to be up. Yet Sydney was over there ready to take on the world. It made Dayton want to slap the happy right off her face.
As painful as it was Dayton pulled herself together and walked with Sydney who held Thomas in her hand, still not brave enough to little walk that distance with him.
“Alright class, today we are talking about Little rights” Mr. Robinson said as everyone gathered sat their workstations. “More specifically what people normally think is why can’t my little just have the same rights as me or my little deserves equal rights to me.”
“This should be interesting.” Dayton mumbled quietly to Sydney who nodded in agreement.
“What I’m going to tell you is what I tell every guardian who I train. Equality is a lie for as long as we have had people on this planet there has never been equality. Historically speaking we had kings and queens all around the world. As Royalty they could do things and say things that their subjects could not. That the slaves those nations had could not. Parlay that into today. While society has changed, the rules of engagment may have changed we are still seeing the inequalities manifested differently. Pay scales between sexes can be different, between races. Age can play a factor if a bunch of younger people work somewhere maybe that don’ t want to hire that 40 year old or the inverse if its an older staff maybe they don’t want some 19 year old coming.
What all this means is the treatment of Littles and People will never be equal. What you should strive for is to treat your little fairly. A good example of this is in sports. In basketball may be you have a really good power forward on your team. All star level, well in practice maybe’s going halfspeed through drills and the coaching staff says nothing but if his backup goes half speed through drills they are on him right away as they want make sure he’s ready to go, ready to step in and contribute.
The team is treating people according to their needs. When you treat people based on needs its not always going to be equal. Being guardian means doing that just that. You are expected to treat your little fairly but not equally to you thats not fair to the little. You can do things they can’t. The litlte is going to need accommodations in order to be successful. As a guardian you should be finding ways to give your little wins. Yes Dayton” Mr. Robinsain said pointing at Dayton.
“So I understand fair vs equal. Having Thomas clean my shoes is fair, having him take out garbage is not. Expecting him to take longer to clean my shoes than I would to do an equal task. However, I’d just like to know is Thomas a person? As some of my friends think littles are still people and they make me feel bad because I think they are pets.” Dayton asked.
“Good question, The answer is that legally they are not people. Littles are domesticated animals legally speaking. Littles are mostly bred in captivity. There are littles who were bred in the wild and didn’t know they were littles pre-smallara however those littles are what the official term is semi-domesticated or what others call Wild Littles.
Littles were genetically different and evolved differently over generations and while this Smallara virus was catalyst to revealing those changes it does not change the fact they have evolved differently from humanity. A little and human are genetically divergent and will only further seperate as time goes on.
LIttles while versatile creatures and can be trained to undergo a multitude of skills just like people are trained by mankind, are bred by mankind, are shaped genetically by mankind. We are testing the ability for instance to increase a littles ability to hold body heat. Which would be used in littles bred for outdoors tasks. Looking into making littles cold blooded even by changing genetic markers and then observing them over a generation.
This is kind of a long way to answer your question in that no littles are not people. They are animals, tehy have the rights of animals, Semi-domesticated littles maintain there rights to vote, but littles bred in captivity do not have that right. So while they share some traits with us.” Mr. Robinson said.
“So just so my notes are clear as i feel like this will be on the test. Littles are not equal because we breed them, train them, tame them, genetically modify them, they are unable to survive without mankind or the accommodations we supply them. Examples would be how last week you talked about dangers of taking littles out in the rain.” Sydney asked.
“Yes, exactly Sydney. You nailed it. You are correct this will be on the test. You will need to know that littles are not people, you will need be able to cite examples as to why they aren’t equal, and then what we are going to cover next in the laws that reinforce why littles are not people. However, i would think of the laws we are going to cover this way. A little gets their rights through you. If Thomas is Sydney’s little. THomas gets his rights through Sydney. Thomas gets the right to medical attention through his guardian. Thomas would have a voice and opinion he could give through Sydney. However, as a little Thomas cannot shape mankind. Mr. Robinson said.
“Littles are by themselves are provided what is called Little Rights. This is something that is going to be coming out as you finish guardian trianing. But Littles Rights are the univeresal rights that a little has.
A little has a right to be safe. This means the guardian must be provide the little a safe home. Protected from dangers, the proper temperature, access to food and water, the little should be feel safe and secure.
A little has the right to be loved and love. This means a little has the right to procreate, A little has the right to love his or her guardian and the guardian can love his or her little. It should be noted that guardian to little relationships are unethical. The only exception is for semi-domesticated littles and guardians due to the circumstances that led them to being littles.
It is illegal to kill your little. It is the equivalent to murder.
It is illegal for a little to commit an act that would purposefully frame their guardian or owner in a illegal act.
A little cannot be made to testify against their guardian or owner.
“We are going to start with just those five. So I want you all to work on memorizing and knowing the little laws as you will be tested on them. We will go over more little laws in the future once you’ve had time to unpack the first five.” Mr. Robinson said before the class stopped for a break.

We have a hybrid environment that mixes local servers and edge servers in aws. The workstation stuff was more annoying then difficult but the was stuff because of no local access makes it frustrating in these situations. It’s fixable but very clunky
Dayton is aware that he collars are recording everything though. So it’s unlikely she slips up again. She already fell that for that trap once with Jordan by getting recorded. Granted it wasn’t his collar that recorded her but still.
Some how I feel more confused about how a little is different from a person and technically speaking people are animals too so I don’t know where this is coming from but I’ll give you the point of a lion and tiger are in the cat family but are not the same or equal and how humanity has never been equal to each point all day.
Fuck Dayton all the way Sara would probably be ashamed and I feel bad for Thomas who has to go through this. The professor I can’t tell if he actually care about Littles or just respect them and the laws for Littles is somewhat confusing I understand the more obvious ones but damn Littles sound like that have little chance to happiness unless they’re lucky enough to have a nice guardian who treat them well like bro is a rare win.
I’m hoping Chloe doesn’t let Dayton just have Thomas because then I’ll have little faith that she actually care for the well being of Littles besides Jordan.

My opinion is that the professor cares more than is being let on. A: his job hinges on caring for Littles and ensuring safety, B: I don’t think he’d have made a proclamation like he did the first day if he didn’t, and c: I haven’t really seen a generitech employee that doesn’t take the care of little seriously.
I am curious about other guardians too. Part of me thinks we’re just seeing things in a amplified scope for story purposes and not all of the guardians and people have that extreme of a prejudice, but societal norms are weird in that regard lol
I will say if you look at his words he always used legally speaking. So take that with what you will. He is a trainer who is graded and judged to yeah the provided government curriculum.
That’s a pretty big hint to me that he cares as all the people I see that I think care never say more than what they legally need to, like stephs mom and the generitech banker. They make it pretty clear to keep their personal opinions and legal obligations seperate whereost people who tend to be harsher with Littles dont
It looks like Thomas and Dayton need to learn to work together, so they can both get what they want from this training.
Dayton is one of my favorite characters in The Smallara Universe because I can see the potential in her to become a good guardian and grow and change as a person despite her attitude and controlling nature currently has.
She reminds me of Sera from Dragon Age Inquisition, a character that most of the fandom hates because she’s blunt, challenges your Inky but does grow and change throughout the game and DLC.
God I love dragon age. Sera is my go to romance option in inquisition. She’s my favorite companion. I never thought of comparing Dayton and sera nut it works.
I do like Dayton a lot. I feel like she gets a bad rap. I mean she is a bit blunt and she does want obedience. However I feel like she would also care about her little.
Like even in this episode Dayton really only used her connections to gain obedience. But she didn’t actually do anything malicious with it. She recognized her methods with Jordy may have been to much so she went a different route to ensure her control. But once she had control she was never mean or really rude to Thomas. It was just used a so we understand I’m in charge

Anyway yeah, I could see that if Dayton got a little she would go to great lengths to care for it. Like if a bully tried to harm her little Dayton would handle business..
When a dragon age and mass effect game comes out I literally take time off work. Its the only games I do that for. So whenever veilguard comes out there will be probably a couple week break in smallara updates. So I can beat the game.
I agree. I think its very much little bro or little sis syndrome. An older sibling has no trouble basically bullying and or tormenting there younger sibling. But if anyone else does it hell will break loose. I picture Dayton being similar

Dayton I just think is a great actor and unless she fails multiple times she won’t learn anything. Would be awesome if they brought in sarah and Jordan for an evaluation of the class and Jordan evaluated the Littles and told saran he could tell Dayton isn’t learning anything lol

2) It’s interesting that Thomas could potentially get promoted if Dayton and Syd pass, It makes sense that Genritech would find a way to incentivise their Training littles.

Overall I think Dayton needs to fail. Like at some point in these stories we should have a character that is both a bad guardian and has consequences for it. Not to tell Asuka how to do his stories, but that’s really my only criticism of everything. Like I know in the real world good things can happen to bad people, but bad things still happen to bad people too lol

When I gave my list if wants a guardian losing their licence was on it. I feel like the lack of consequences is done on purpose, to show how little protection littles are actually afforded.
I also don’t like feeling too demanding with him, but at the same time I know he’s happily taken suggestions from fans like us, so I just try to phrase it respectfully and see why happens.
Greg and Cindy would be an example of bad things happening to bad people. As I wouldn’t call them good or proponents of little kind pre-smallara. Greg was more neutral in that he was neither against or for. Neither hurt or helped. He just didn’t care as it didn’t really effect him.
Cindy would be what I would definitely be considered bad. She was much more anti-little and anti-little rights even worked to get anti-little education in the school as depicted in the story.
Charity would be another example of a bad person having something bad happen to them in canon.
Only time will tell if dayton passes or fails

Charity could end up going to a great guardian though, like Chrissy’s level of care lol I just don’t want to see more Sadie’s and Daytons just get away with stuff I guess is more my issue. Sarah I don’t put in that category cause I think her little kind views are changing, and Mallory I think is god awful but, like jordan, I don’t think she’s anything compared to Dayton. Seeing her fail and getting caught in how she’s currently treating Thomas just like how she got caught with how she treated jordan would be so awesome lol

Little marriages are fully documented with fees required the whole works. So they are legally on the books. How the day to day of the marriage works the government does not care thats upto the guardians and littles involved.
The only thing the government cares about is that you legally document it and disclose it. Hiding such information would be damaging to the guardian which could result in punishments upto fines and license suspension or revocation.

Littles do generally take the guardians names. Female littles hyphenate so for instance if Kelli and Jordan were to marry Kelli would legally be Kelli Wallace-Reeves. As she would also take her husbands last name.
Jordan would stay just Jordan reeves. Kids would take Jordan’s Last name.
As im sure you will ask. Littles need a guardian in order to get married and for it to be recognized by United States. So Thomas for instance could not get married could date another little but they could not marry without him being owned by a registered guardian.
He could work his way into a scenario like Lisa if he wanted to marry.

Changing littles to meet certain needs? Sounds like they’re actively experimenting on them. Also wild littles. Would love to hear about communities underground or in trees who managed to succeed. Maybe even record their history for future generations.
That’d be do cool, it’d also be impressive as Asukafan2001 has Gone really hard into showing how fragile littles are. It’d be fascinating which traits these hidden littles would manifest in a survival of the fittest type breeding.
Horrifying concept though
wild littles are semi-domesticated littles. Jordan for instance would be a wild little as pretty much all littles post smallara outbreak are born captivity making them what the government considers completely domesticated.

Littles would have a very hard time living solely by themselves. The closest thing to what you are talking about would be the littles Chrissy is helping.
But experimentation is ok? Seems like bad things are gonna happen very quick. Seems like a very dystopian outcome is on the way for the. Especially with the ability to rewrite memories or not know freedom. Being breed and modified to be subservient without a second thought and having a voice that could never be used? Seems like in the end they’ll suffer and the normies will see it as just and acceptable. And the little won’t know any different accept those who were big beforehand. They could help littles have communities of their own or lift them up. Seems like it’s just humans wanting domination over something they can actually communicate with.
I mean Generitech and the U.S. are suing to stop the rewriting of memories. It’s not as if they are rubber stamping that.
Experimentation and research is okay as littles aren’t viewed the same way humans are. So testing or genetically manipulating a little would be viewed the same way as any other animal who wasn’t human.

Each company, country, person, etc is different so while I wouldn’t say there arent countries or companies who would do that. Canoncially Generitech and the U.S. are opposed to that level of manipulation.
Generitech was talking about finding a way to allow littles to not be affected asmuch by the temperature as since they are small they loose body heat quicker as the evolved from humans who traditionally have larger body so the ability to maintain body heat is different.
Thats very different then what you are talking about.
People could help littles but also in real life we could at any point as world, as a nation end hunger. There is enough food and resources to do that. But we don’t. We could provide everyone with access to clean drinking water but we don’t. We could disperse the wealth differently lifting up lower middle classes while still maintaining the wealth of upper class but we don’t.
There a lot of things people could do which would be better and are idealistic. But we don’t because greed, selfishness, power, laziness, not caring, etc. This world is no different.
now I do understand there are people who do care and that is true in this fictional world as well. But just like the real world its not enough to move the needle..
Seeing it from our perspective is different. I personally cannot view littles as so different they they are animals so for me the concept can’t be grasped as I view them just as a smaller version of humans. So id want there to be consent and and understanding of similarities. Unlike the size and body regulations they are mentally the exact same. Aside from body size and function what differences are present that would force such a difference in treatment. Imagine a small human who can think, feel and comprehend the exact same as you begging for you to stop torturing them with needles? It sickens me and is kinda turning me off from this story. It seems that there is no light just continuing levels of darkness with the oppressed are just accepting there’s nothing they can do. As a person of color with slave blood in his veins it hits super close, especially with the actions of my (US) gov during the 60s and experiments done against people like me
No one mentioned torturing with needles. Genetic manipulation would be done prior to birth. They aren’t taking full grown and formed littles and somehow genetically modifying fully grown adults.
They would genetically modify in a lab then grow a little in the lab with genes modified. Similar to that of Jurassic park how they were growing dinosaurs.
As a fellow person of color with slave with blood i can understand to a degree how you feel but I do think it is different. As they are also running models and mappings on computers and simulating growth generations and doing testing. Then in a lab they are creating and growing a little using things like advanced forms ectogenesis and germline editing techniques.
