Little Dayton III

Sunday 14th October 2020

“There’s the Little Princess,” Dayton heard a voice from behind her, before she could twist fully to see who’s addressed her, she felt the finger tracing down her spine, Sara had pet her often, but Dayton found Ellie had a knack for releasing just that little bit of tension left in her body.

“Ellie!” Sara said excitedly, turning to view her friend and hugging her.

“Sara!” Ellie responded in kind holding her bestie.

Dayton felt herself lifted form Sara’s shoulder into Ellie’s hold and as Sara pulled away from the hug.  Ellie and Sara began talking as Ellie started to pamper Dayton with petting and massage, their conversation started being about Sara and Ellie’s plans, Dayton was having trouble paying attention to the conversation thanks to Ellie’s interactions with her.

After a while of being held, Dayton stretched out in Ellie’s grip, snuggling into it more.

“Here,” Ellie whispered offering Dayton a selection five of pellets, casing Dayton to sit up excitedly.  Ellie always had the best pellets for Dayton, “For my petite mademoiselle” Ellie said in a playful, imitation French accent.

The pellets were all different colours and Ellie had them lined up on her finger, Dayton took the first and bit onto it, the sweet flavours dances around her mouth as she ate, the pellet was white but after she bit into it, she could see that the pellet had brown and pink inside of it.

“That one’s Baked Alaska flavour,” Ellie explained, “I’ve had those before, they’re nice.”

“You’ve had Little Pellets before?” Dayton asked cheekily.

“No,” Ellie defended, “Well, yes, actually, but I meant I’ve had real Baked Alaska before.”

“Only give her one of those” Sara said, eyeing off the extra pellets on Ellie’s finger, she was under Chloe’s arm and talking to Kayla, neither was noticed by Dayton.

“When did they get here?” Asked Dayton.

“Oh, was someone not paying attention?” Ellie asked, “Only a few minutes ago.”

Ellie put Dayton on the coffee table and joined the other girls on the couch.

“Hey, Day,” Dayton heard from behind, as a hand dropped on her head and ruffled her hair.

“Kelli!” Dayton sung out wrapping her arms around her.

“Good to see you too,” Kelli reciprocated the hug, “It’s good to hug someone my size.” Kelli commented, “or close enough.”

“Yeah,” Dayton agreed. “I heard you joined a Little ball team.”

“I did, it took Kay ages to find a women’s team, most that exist are for little men, not women” Kelli told her.

“That’s not fair,” Dayton whined, “why can’t the boys let you play with them, are they scared of being beaten by a girl?” Dayton asked offendedly.

“Before I was infected, I was on my college’s women’s soccer team, and we, at the start of a semester played against the boys team…” Kelli told her, “We lost, really badly, I never wanted to do that again, I couldn’t force them to do the same.”

“You don’t want revenge?” asked Dayton.

“Part of growing up is not needing revenge for every little thing,” explained Kelli, “especially when that little thing is just the other team having a natural advantage.”

“That’s boring,” huffed Dayton, “I have my Littles playing Little ball in Guardian simulator” Dayton then bragged trying to impress Kelli. “Those games have both sexes playing together.”

“Sounds very… realistic” Kelli laughed, walking behind Dayton and hugging her, resting her chin on Dayton’s head.

“Yeah, think that’s how Sara feels,” Dayton joked in reply, “she played it once or twice for her streams, but I don’t think she’s touched it since.”

“I hear it’s more popular with people who don’t actually own littles or can’t afford them,” Kelli said.

“I guess,” Dayton answered in a sombre tone, “but it’s not fair, I wanna play it with Sara, but whenever I bring it up, she just picks another game she likes for us to play, and I always lose.”

“Kayla does that,” Kelli reminisced, “I’ll say I we should go shopping and she’ll take me to a skate shop, or a videogame store or just another shop she likes, sometimes we’ll swing by a Genritech store or a Sephora, but she’s only there for a few minutes.”

“Aww, Sara almost never let’s me chose where to go,” Dayton complained, “though my friend Nicole gave Sara tickets to our dance recital, and Sara agreed to take me.”

“Our?” questioned Kelli,

“I guess it’s just hers now,” Dayton explained, her mood clearly worsening, “I was supposed to be in it, before I caught Smallara.”

“Damn, that suck’s Kay,” said Kelli, hugging tighter.

“What’d you call me?” asked Dayton.

“Day!” corrected Kelli, “sorry, I meant Day.”

Deep in their conversation and facing away from the humans, Kelli and Dayton don’t notice when one of the human’s leaves in a huff, the two spoke as if they were in their own little world.

……………

“What’s wrong?” asked Chloe, as the bathroom door opened.

Kayla immediately felt insecure in her brave face, she’d hastily wiped her eyes but could still feel the moisture surrounding them.  “N-Nothing, I’m good” lied Kayla.

“You were on the brink of tears and clearly have something troubling you,” Chloe explained what she’s seen to Kayla, “I doubt that it’s nothing.”

“I’m fine,” Kayla lied less convincingly as she tried to walk past Chloe, only to feel her wrist grabbed preventing her from leaving.

Chloe’s grip was strong yet didn’t hurt, it told Kayla, “you’re not going anywhere”, Chloe’s face was calm with hints of concern, it told Kayla “you’re safe to talk about it,” the look in Chloe’s eyes was sharp and determined, they told Kayla “Don’t you dare lie to me.”

After a moment Chloe spoke again, “What’s wrong, Kayla?”

Kayla sighed, relenting to answer, “While we were talking, I was watching the Littles and how they interacted, and…” Kayla took a breath, “and I remember when Kelli use to hold me like that.”

Chloe smiled supportively.

“Sometimes I’ll be holding Kelli, and I’ll miss her like I haven’t seen her in a year, even though she’s right there, in my hand” Kayla said, “I- I felt jealous of Dayton… is that normal?”

“If you ask Dayton, most people are jealous of her.”  Chloe answered, getting a slight chuckle out of Kayla, “I know a lot of guardians, and that’s a common struggle for guardians who knew their Littles… beforehand.”

“She’s just so different now,” Kayla mumbled, “constantly frustrated or flustered, her tempers shorter, and she complains all the time, so much more than she used to.”

“Kelli’s adapting too,” Chloe assured her, suddenly very grateful for those weeks her parents had made her work on Genritech’s Guardian helpline.

……………

Kayla took a few more moments to calm down before the two girls returned to the conversation as the two approached the group Chloe cast her attention momentarily to the Littles, by now they’d broken up their hug and were sitting on the little couch Chloe’s father had gifted Dayton the first time he met her.

“How many Littles do you think there are in the world?” Dayton asked Kayla, absentmindedly.

“Five hundred and eighty-six million,” Chloe answered startling all the girls around her.

“Is that how much money Kayla owes you?” asked Ellie.

“Ha, no, Dayton was wondering how many littles are in the world,” Chloe explained.

“And you just know that off the top of your head?” asked Kelli.

“Yeah, she’s clever like that.” Dayton answered for Chloe.

“That’s the approximated total, based on vulnerability tests” Chloe clarified, “only about two thirds have actually been infected as of July this year (2020).”

“So only about three hundred and ninety-one million actual littles then,” said Sara, “before turning to Kelli, “and yes I did that maths in my head.”

Kelli poked her tongue out at Sara which made Dayton smile.  The girls’ conversation went on, Kayla, put her hand on the coffee table, needing a hug from her sister, though before Kelli could board Dayton climbed onto the hand and sat down.  Kayla picked both Littles up and held them, allowing them to integrate into the humans’ conversation.  After a few minutes Ellie offered to hold Dayton which she accepted, allowing Kayla to just hold Kelli for a moment.

    (1) Kayla’s jealousy of Dayton for her was an interesting wrinkle. Then again it is probably because Kelli sees Dayton as a little sister and Kayla feels like she doesn’t matter as much to Kelli.

    (2) Kayla holding Dayton was nice. I wish they got some dialogue together though.

    (3) Dayton feeling down about Nicole and the dance recital shows she’s still struggling to adjust to being a little. I can’t wait for those two to interact in this story and hash things out.

    (4) Interested to see how Dayton interacts with Gavin and Mallory.

Still a fantastic chapter and story even if I don’t like Dayton being small lol.
