Kayla 10

Kayla Episode 10: A Smallara Side Story

“Can you believe her?” Kayla huffed as she and Carter skated side by side, the wheels of their boards gliding smoothly over the pavement. “She just doesn’t get it. It’s like she thinks she’s the only one whose life was turned upside down by all of this. And honestly, I shouldn’t be surprised. She’s always been like this. It’s always Kelli first, Kayla second.” Kayla’s voice cracked slightly, her frustration bubbling over. “She doesn’t even see me as her guardian. I’m still just her little sister in her eyes.”

Carter nodded, glancing at her as they coasted along. “I get it. I’ve got a sister too. And even though she’s not a Little, that relationship can get… complicated. I can only imagine how hard it is when your sister is a Little.”

Kayla sighed, her hands tightening slightly around the edges of her board as she vented. “It sucks,” she admitted, her voice raw. “She’s always there. Always watching. I feel like I’m constantly being judged, like I’m never doing enough. None of the training prepared me for taking care of Kelli Wallace. Having her critique every piece of clothing I wear, or ask me what we’re doing every second of the day… I’m not a ‘doing’ person! I like coming home, playing games, doing my own thing.”

Carter listened, his expression softening as he pushed off lightly, keeping pace with her. “Yeah, I know,” he said gently. “You’re more about chilling and having space. It’s tough when you don’t get that.”

Kayla nodded, her frustration slowly morphing into exhaustion as she continued. “Exactly. I like that we can be together but not draped over each other. But with Kelli? She’s always there. It’s like I can never get a break. Kelli is… inevitable,” she muttered, shaking her head as they neared the exit of the skatepark.

Carter glanced over, his hand brushing against hers briefly. “You’re doing your best. She’ll realize it eventually.”

Kayla let out a half-hearted laugh. “I don’t know about that. But I guess I’ll just have to deal with it.”

“Kayla, come on. There’s love between you two, and you know it,” Carter said, his tone steady but full of understanding. “You don’t drop everything and run when you hear your sister’s infected if there’s no love there. I mean, remember? It was our first or second date. You got that call and were gone—I didn’t even stand a chance keeping up with you.” He chuckled softly. “That’s not something you do for someone you don’t care about.”

Kayla let out a long breath, the memory pulling her back to that chaotic moment. “I know. I do love her. I’ll always love her, no matter how hard this gets. She’s my sister. I wasn’t going to let her go into the system—it was never even an option. I had to be her guardian. Mom and Dad? They’re too old to handle her. They’d end up driving each other crazy. It had to be me.”

She paused, her voice softening as her emotions bubbled up. “But, Carter… we’re so different. We’ve always been different, and now we’re stuck together like this, forever. Littles live practically forever, and I’m just scared. What if we’re too different to make this work? What if… we don’t fit?”

Carter listened quietly, letting her words sink in before responding. “Look, it’s not easy. You’re right, Littles live a long time, but you two are figuring it out. It’s not gonna happen overnight. But it’s happening.”

Kayla shook her head, a small, weary laugh escaping her. “Maybe. But when I look at my friends, it’s like they’re pros at this. One of them built this insane habitat for her Little in a day—she redid the plumbing and everything. There’s a tiny sink, a toothbrush… it’s perfect. And what did I do? I went to the pet store and bought a dog bed for Kelli, trying to pass it off as a ‘starter Little bed.’” She groaned, rolling her eyes. “It’s ridiculous.”

Carter tried to hold back his laughter but failed, shaking his head as he grinned. “A dog bed? Oh man, I’m sorry, but that’s hilarious. Does Kelli know?”

Kayla cracked a smile, the tension easing just a bit. “She kind of suspected, but I told her it was a Little bed, and I’d get the ‘accessories’ later. I mean, she said it was comfortable, so I guess it worked.”

Both of them burst into laughter, the shared humor cutting through the stress. For the first time in a while, Kayla felt like she could breathe a little easier. The burden of being Kelli’s guardian was still heavy, but in that moment, it felt just a little lighter.

(1) Someone built a habitat with functioning plumbing? that’s crazy.

(2) Seeing the struggle on both sides of the Guardian/Little relationship is nice to see, especially when it’s a family member that’s stricken like Kelli or Nicole’s older sister.

2) when was it mentioned that Nicole’s sister was older? (I think I missed it)

I don’t believe the age has been mentioned

Good, because in my current draft of Little Dayton IV, she’s 9 years old.

1) No she’s referring to the sink Sara made Jordan in her bathroom.

Kayla on the one hand, isn’t wrong. Kelli doesn’t seem to be fully aware of how much things are changing for Kayla on top of the other stuff she deals with. And Kelli being pretty critical about things because she sees it how she herself would be doing it is hard.

On the other hand, Kayla isn’t considering just exactly how much Kelli has lost, either, even though there are glimpses of recognition. Being able to take Kelli where ever she wants now, being in control of her social life, being in charge of her interests, having no one to have a strong connection with the way she used to. that’s a lot. I’m sure it’ll come out more later, and more genuine than from the previous chapters vs a frustrated venting, but still, Kayla needs to see that Kelli is starting over with everything.

If Kelli knew how to explain it this way, she could tell Kayla that it’s like reaching level 60 in hardcore wow and being able to do raids just for Blizzard\Battlenet to glitch out and her account to get deleted and starting over at level 1 but never being able to progress again.

They’ll work through it though. I know it. I again think they are much closer than they are different. seeing Kayla at the skatepark and playing video games tells me that.

1) The getting a crash and starting at level 1 again but not being able to move up again is a great analogy.
2) I just hope Kayla is able to stop being a bully because its a bad look. I also hope Kelli can stop being pride full like Cindy and except she is a little and try to blend in with Kayla’s life and try to help her succeed with loving smooth input, not big sister harsh input because she does not have that position anymore and has to change her communication style to match her diminished form.

0) Love the image for this one.

1.1) “She just doesn’t get it. It’s like she thinks she’s the only one whose life was turned upside down by all of this” It’s normal for her to need to get her bearings before she can look beyond herself and see how others are struggling,  and Kayla’s life changes would be tiny compared to Kelli’s.
1.2) “She’s always been like this. It’s always Kelli first, Kayla second.” That’s how all big sisters operate
1.3) “She doesn’t even see me as her guardian. I’m still just her little sister in her eyes.” That’s an adjustment she’s still making, but it’s not a bad thing for her to still see Kayla as her little sister.  Jordan was ready to straight-up go no-contact with Allison.

2) “I get it. I’ve got a sister too. And even though she’s not a Little, that relationship can get… complicated” Carter being supportive is good.

3.1) “She’s always there. Always watching. I feel like I’m constantly being judged, like I’m never doing enough.” I assure you Kelli would rather be elsewhere.
3.2) “None of the training prepared me for taking care of Kelli Wallace.” Guardian training does have a blind spot when it comes to a little’s personality.

4) “You’re doing your best. She’ll realize it eventually.” – “I don’t know about that. But I guess I’ll just have to deal with it.” I do think Kelli realises Kayla’s trying, though it’s understandable if Kelli wouldn’t be great at showing it given all else she’s to deal with.

5) “You don’t drop everything and run when you hear your sister’s infected if there’s no love there. I mean, remember? It was our first or second date. You got that call and were gone—I didn’t even stand a chance keeping up with you.” On their first date, that’s unfortunate.  Carter’s lucky Kayla doesn’t associate him with the bad news. Lol

6.1) “I know. I do love her. I’ll always love her, no matter how hard this gets. She’s my sister. I wasn’t going to let her go into the system—it was never even an option.” Kayla remembering her love for Kelli is sweet.
6.2) “Mom and Dad? They’re too old to handle her. They’d end up driving each other crazy. It had to be me.” Right, because there’s definitely no one being driven crazy here.

7) “we’re so different. We’ve always been different, and now we’re stuck together like this, forever. Littles live practically forever, and I’m just scared. What if we’re too different to make this work? What if… we don’t fit?” I’d say this is why Genritech needs to match Littles and Guardians together based on personality, But they’re sisters so we can’t really apply that here.

I’m confident they’ll be alright, Jordan can cope with Sara and they’re more different than Kelli and Kayla.

8) “Look, it’s not easy. You’re right, Littles live a long time, but you two are figuring it out. It’s not gonna happen overnight. But it’s happening.”  Should I be concerened that neither have mentioned that Guardians can extend their lives with their littles?

9) “when I look at my friends, it’s like they’re pros at this. One of them built this insane habitat for her Little in a day—she redid the plumbing and everything. There’s a tiny sink, a toothbrush… it’s perfect.” Sara has a lot more money and than Kayla, she has access to things Kayla wouldn’t.

10.1) “And what did I do? I went to the pet store and bought a dog bed for Kelli, trying to pass it off as a ‘starter Little bed.’” fucking gold.  And Bryce’s bed is a little bed designed to look like a dog bed, so it’s actually believable
10.2) . “A dog bed? Oh man, I’m sorry, but that’s hilarious. Does Kelli know?” no, and there’ll be hell to pay when she finds out.
10.3) “she said it was comfortable, so I guess it worked.” that’s definitely something.

I’m sorry but the talk of Kayla loving her sister and will always love her and then turns around and has the uncaring attitude to get a dog bed and not ask her parents to help her set up a basic clean living area in her room. Then has the coldness to complain that like I said on one of my posts Kelli complained all the time of being bored when she had to lay on a dog bed with nothin to do while looking up and her towering sister enjoying her life while the sister she says she loves is in hell. Oh and also has a laugh with her boy friend about the uncaring treatment of her distressed sister. I look at things like engineering problems, the simplest solution is normally the best and Kayla says she cares and loves her and blah, blah, blah but what has she done to show she cares other then taking guardian classes that cant be that difficulty if young kids are passing it. look at the chain of events and number the cold, indifferent things Kayla has done and the amount of loving things Kayla has done. I may not be doing composite wing calculations any more but the Kayla is being a cold bitch side of the fulcrum is very much out waying the loving sister trying to look out for her sister that lost everything she had and everything she will ever be. The old saying that when people show you who they are believe them is a old saying for a reason it is true. As always your writing is good but in my humble opinion giving Kayla a out because she is young or because everyone looks out for their own needs just proves my point. For one I know for a fact that not everyone looks out for them selves. I know you really want her not to look bad but look at what she is doing through Kelli’s broken souls view, out of this giant, dangerous uncaring world filled with evil giants that looks at her like vermin hoping her sister will be the one person that will show her love and protection but ends up buying her a dog bed and towers over her living a normal life doing what she loves while she is laying in a dog bed with nothing to do and going crazy because she has a driven personality looking up having the hopes of her sister saving her warped to becomes just another uncaring giant that would rather not deal with her. As I said in a different post , that is easily a mix that would lead to Kelli wanting to finely end her life because she has lost her last hope of happiness. many young woman have taken there lives for much less. I had to learn about that because I have daughter to watch out for

great writing always stirs questions so bravo lol. I hope Kayla asks Kelli for forgiveness for her horrible treatment because I do believe in forgiveness and I want them to have a loving family life together complimenting each other in stead of being at odds

0) I’m just glad I commented before it went up. (Kayla just needs to lean a little further and Carter cops a feel)

1) That makes sense, I get that she’s been a typical selfish teen, albeit one with more empathy than others.

I agree Kayla only got trained for Kelli, which would be part of the problem, the other guardians wanted to be guardians where as Kayla just wanted to not loss her sister.

1.3) That would be an interesting AU.

“KInd of the remember me for as I was not as I am idea.” What does this mean?

3.1) Even though I know Kelli’s against it, getting Kelli her own room in the form of a habitat would probably be the best compromise.
3.2) That’s true, growing up as Kelli’s sister was supposed to be Kayla’s training for that.

5) Which is fair enough.

6.1) That’s good to see.

7) That’s what I mean Genritech was just assuming family would work it out.

I agree Kayla being a little and Kelli being human would be easier for both overall, especially because I could see Guardian Kelli making sure to have visits with Talisa so Kayla can still see her best friend. But I could also see Kelli messing up, leaving Kayla in her purse for hours dragging her to places she doesn’t want to go still.

8) I get that it’s not mandatory but that’s suck if for a little to be bonded to a human only for that human to die of old age and that little still has half a century of life left. (actually what happens to littles when their guardian dies?)

9) Sara happening to have that fish tank/terrarium was likely the crux of her innovation, everything else most homes would have. Sara’s wealth would be a factor, as while the Sara is from the second poorest family (after Gavin), Sara would be the second wealthiest child (after Chloe).

10.3) I can imagine her pretending “it wasn’t actually comfy, I was pretending to not make you feel bad” to Kayla

I am going to going to steal the numbered remark method that is normally used, its perfect for my number based OCD tinged mind lol. As always interesting chapter and comments.
1) “Can you believe her?” Kayla huffed “She just doesn’t get it. It’s like she thinks she’s the only one whose life was turned upside down by all of this. Technically Kelli was the only one that lost all her friends, freedom everything she ever owned or will own, lost everything she ever was or will be as a person. What has Kayla lost, she gained all Kayla’s stuff, will live longer, is in control of everything her sister does, treats her sister like a animal and not a sister and buys her a dog bed not a bed for a little because your pride wont let you ask for help from your parents. Got new popular friends because she has a little now to control and do her bidding. yeah rough life.
2)And honestly, I shouldn’t be surprised. She’s always been like this. It’s always Kelli first, Kayla second.” her frustration bubbling over. Yeah horrible Kelli the bad big sister who I am guessing got shit from all her friends for always trying to involve her sister in everything she did to try to get her to experience different parts of life so she doesn’t regret staying in her room. Also I am sure she was also doing some of it to help her parents because they worry about Kayla. Yeah always about Kelli.
3) “She doesn’t even see me as her guardian. I’m still just her little sister in her eyes.” When the love and light in Kelli’s eye’s die and she no longer wants to comment to try to help you or have any personality at all it will be on you for killing your sisters soul.
4)Kayla sighed, her hands tightening slightly around the edges of her board as she vented. “It sucks,” she admitted, her voice raw. “She’s always there. Always watching. I feel like I’m constantly being judged, like I’m never doing enough. None of the training prepared me for taking care of Kelli Wallace. Well she isn’t doing enough and it is all her fault because her pride wont let her ask her parents for help setting up a area in Kayla’s room that Kelli can have her own space to interact with the world online when she is playing games not laying on a dog bed to be expected to do nothing, not even pets do that so that is all on Kayla for acting like Evil Cindy not a loving sister
5) Having her critique every piece of clothing I wear, or ask me what we’re doing every second of the day…”I can see wear Kelli can chill on the cloths stuff .
6) I’m not a ‘doing’ person! I like coming home, playing games, doing my own thing. So your ok making your sister you love sit on a dog bed and do nothing but watch you entertain yourself. What a ungrateful bitch for not being a good slave.
7) Carter listened, “You’re more about chilling and having space. It’s tough when you don’t get that.”
Kayla nodded, her frustration slowly morphing into exhaustion . “Exactly. I like that we can be together but not draped over each other. But with Kelli? She’s always there. It’s like I can never get a break. Kelli is… inevitable,” she muttered Again all Kyla’s fault for not asking for help from her parents in setting up a area for Kelli so she can be independent to a point without Kayla. Kelli is being a bad animal and wont just lick her butt all day.
8) Carter glanced over, “You’re doing your best. She’ll realize it eventually.”
Kayla let out a half-hearted laugh. “I don’t know about that. But I guess I’ll just have to deal with it.” Well Carter you are either as dumb as a rock or really want to get laid because anyone can see she is not doing her best a specially with all the resources of family willing to help. She is being a spoiled brat at the expense of her sister who she says she loves. She would rather work more hours at her job then ask her more then willing parents to help because in the end it only affects the family slave not the only human sister Kayla so who cares if humanoid pet goes crazy and kills herself from not being able to use her mind. One less problem for poor heathy, wealthy, attractive Kayla.
9) “Kayla, There’s love between you two, and you know it,” Carter said, “You don’t drop everything and run when you hear your sister’s infected if there’s no love there. “That’s not something you do for someone you don’t care about.” “I know. I do love her. I’ll always love her, no matter how hard this gets. She’s my sister. I wasn’t going to let her go into the system—it was never even an option. I had to be her guardian. Mom and Dad? They’re too old to handle her.
if treating your sister you love like a common animal with nothing to do all day and then complain when she says she is bored, I would hate to see what Kala would do if she didn’t like her.
10) One of them built this insane habitat for her Little in a day—she redid the plumbing and everything.
“A dog bed? Does Kelli know?”
Kayla cracked a smile, “She kind of suspected, but I told her it was a Little bed There’s the two humans making fun of how Kayla is treating her sister she says she loves like a common animal beneath even giving her a toilet and a common hygienic area. Madison who was raised by KKK Cindy doesn’t treat her little parents like Kayla treats her sister she said she loves, in fact Kelli stood up to a giant that could kill her in a second because she saw Kayla in trouble. And she flat out lied to Kelli and will still complain that Kelli wont believe her. Kayla doesn’t deserve Kelli. She is lazy with a capital Z. Kenz set up a studio apartment for her dad while still working, going to school and trying to keep their family together.
11) Both of them burst into laughter, the shared humor cutting through the stress. For the first time in a while, Kayla felt like she could breathe a little easier. The burden of being Kelli’s guardian was still heavy, but in that moment, it felt just a little lighter. Oh the burden of treating your sister you say you love like a animal, putting her on a dog bed with no way to clean herself or go to the bathroom or to do any activity at all while you play video games and ignore her plight and joke about her losing everything with your boyfriend. Ok Cindy Kayla

1) Kelli’s situation is obviously and objectively worse, she lost everything and almost everyone she had. She can’t legally own property and is not considered property of her sister. But like I said regarding Jordan… Just because others have it worse, doesn’t mean you have to ignore your problems.

Kayla’s not having an easy time, and while Kelli’s is worse, Kayla is a teenage girl, a bit of short sighted and selfishness is to be expected. She can’t work through her flaws if she has none, she’s already less flawed than Sara or Mal but that doesn’t mean she needs to be perfect.

2) Kelli may have gotten shit for dragging Kayla to places, Personally I see Kelli dragging Kayla around as the same as Kayla dragging Kelli to school. Both were done for the dragged sisters benefit, but weren’t the best way to go about it.

3) Kayla wants to be Kelli’s sister AND guardian, not one or the other.

4) Kayla probably isn’t doing enough; this is likely because Kayla is still in the stage where she’s figuring out what she can and can’t do and trying to figure out what “enough” is for her sister.

I do agree that not asking Greg or Judy for help is a mistake on Kayla’s part though.

I don’t think it’s fair to compare Kayla to Cindy, there’s no way that Cindy would be half as patient with a little as Kayla is with Kelli.

6) Kayla has tried to compromise with Kelli, made offers Kelli’s refused, much of what Kelli wants to do isn’t realistic for a little.

7) I agree Kayla should talk to their parents about setting up a habitat for Kelli, one with the internet and entertainment, though Kelli would want in person social interaction sooner or later, but this would improve her status in the meantime.

8) What would you have Carter do? Cuss her out and call her inadequate? I don’t blame him for not jumping at the opportunity to talk shit about his GF.

Kayla needs a break from Kelli and while I’d agree Kelli is worse off than Kayla, Kayla still needs her efforts acknowledged so she can be more confident when she tries to improve them later, and I assume you want her to improve them.

9) It’s very clear to me that Kayla wasn’t interested in being a guardian, the only reason she agreed to become one was for Kelli, she didn’t fantasise about being a guardian like Maddie, Mal, Dayton, Sara or Ellie, she just had it dropped into her lap like Nicole, which is why she seems less prepared. Kayla does need to work on making sure Kelli is taken better care of, including entertained for the sake of her mental health. But she’s started out better than most and is more willing to improve than many.

10) I agree that it could seem like a mean thing to do, but it’s also releasing the built-up tension of the situation. We don’t know that Kayla’s done for Kelli’s hygienic needs, she could have them handled already or still be figuring that out.

Kayla is not worse than Madison. Madison works her parents like a dog and is highly prone to overreaction when things don’t go her way. Madison has even set them up in some pseudo little share group where even her friends can work them like slaves. It’s actually extremely rare for Kayla to make requests of Kelli, it’s far more common to for Kelli to order Kayla around and for Kayla to do it.

Kelli standing up to Tamara is one of my favourite moments for her, and if you’ll remember Kayla didn’t really stand up to Tamara until Tamara insulted Kelli.

Kayla lying to Kelli and then getting surprised when she isn’t beloved in future is again normal teenage behaviour and consequences for action.

McKenzie made an apartment for her dad, but she also got help from outsiders, Sean in particular was stated to have helped. Kelli probably wouldn’t want an apartment like that since she doesn’t want to be in a cage or terrarium, which Kayla has been obliging.

11) taking care of someone is stressful, and often times that stress needs to be relieved. Kayla has improvements she needs to make but isn’t nearly as bad as I think you’re interpreting. Kelli has needs that aren’t being met, but it’s clear Kayla is still figuring out how to meet them, not neglecting them.

I understand we all are reading these stories from different back grounds and mine is from being a father of a girl who graduated high school just a few years ago and is a attractive girl like her mom and a gamer like her dad(ME) so I’m very aware of what teenage girls go though and based on the teen age girls that I have met from all different backgrounds and interests she is being lazy by not setting up just a basic sleeping and bathroom set up. I understand saying she is Cindy and Madison is a little harsh but Joking with her boyfriend coldly how she is abusing her basically handicap vulnerable sister by making her sleep on a dog bed and lying to her about it and complaining about Kelli not wanting to sit on the bed and do nothing but lick her ass all day while she towers over her enjoying her self ignoring her plight and pain. That to me is truly evil and Kayla better beg for forgiveness because in real life, young woman like Kelli can have bad reactions to that kind of abuse and If Kelli runs away and gets killed out of desperation, that will be all Kayla’s fault and will have to deal with the Final death of her sister and have to relive in her mind her selfishness that led to her sisters unstable condition. Having raised a teenage girl through high school and now college my wife had me learn all the signs to look for to make sure our daughter was ok because young woman take some things hard and snap and could harm themselves. But I always like what I’m thinking to be looked at from a different point of view. We have a lot of insightful people reading these interesting stories which I love reading and a lot of my opinions have changed based on peoples feed back lol.

my opinion of Kayla has gotten almost as bad as Cindy since I did this AI pick of Kelli risking her life defending her giant sister against a giant bully that could kill her with the flick of her wrist. So sad.
