Kayla 18

Kayla Episode 18: A Smallara Side Story

Kelli stood on Talisa’s desk, feeling the smooth wood beneath her feet, the grain of it slightly uneven but solid. She looked around, taking in Talisa’s room—her first time being here, her first time in any house that wasn’t her own since she’d been infected with Smallara. The room was like any other teenager’s—posters of bands Kelli didn’t recognize, clothes strewn across the floor, a half-open closet revealing sneakers piled carelessly. There was a lived-in quality to the space, like the house itself had seen many years of life before Talisa had moved in. It felt old, the kind of house that had been renovated and updated, but the bones still belonged to another era.

Kelli’s chest tightened as she glanced around. This is real, she thought. She wasn’t in her own home, wasn’t under the watchful eye of her little sister. This wasn’t the facility where she could hear nurses talking in the hallways, or even Kayla’s room where she’d started to carve out a space for herself. She was somewhere entirely foreign, and for the first time, Kelli realized just how small she truly was. It wasn’t just her size—it was her world that had shrunk.

There was no safety net here, no one who truly knew her beyond Talisa. Not that she distrusted Talisa, but the stark reality hit her hard: if something went wrong, no one was coming to save her. She was entirely at the mercy of someone else, dependent on Talisa’s every move, every decision. The feeling gnawed at her, a quiet vulnerability she couldn’t shake.

Talisa finished putting her things away and approached the desk, her movements making the floor vibrate ever so slightly beneath Kelli’s feet. As Talisa leaned down to get a closer look, Kelli took an instinctive step back. It wasn’t fear—not exactly—but there was something unsettling about being looked at so closely. From Kelli’s vantage point, Talisa was massive, her face filling the sky above her like some kind of gentle giant. Kelli could see Talisa’s eyes sweep over her, studying her in a way that felt both casual and intense, like someone inspecting a fragile, intricate piece of art.

Talisa had always admired Kelli from afar. Even now, it was clear she hadn’t lost that admiration. Despite the infection, despite being reduced to a fraction of her former self, Kelli’s beauty was undeniable. Her golden-brown hair, though a bit tangled from the day, still framed her face perfectly. Her skin, smooth and flawless, seemed to defy the toll that Smallara had taken on her body. Kelli could feel the weight of Talisa’s gaze, but she didn’t move. She could see it in Talisa’s eyes—that same awe Kelli had seen in so many others before. It was odd, though. Now that she was small, that gaze felt different. It wasn’t admiration for her achievements, her social prowess. It was admiration for something far more basic: her appearance, her physical form. Nothing more.

“Talisa, honey, are you home?” The knock on the door made Kelli jump. Talisa’s mother.

Talisa straightened immediately, her eyes widening with panic. “Kelli,” she whispered urgently, “I need you to be quiet and don’t move. This’ll just be for a second. Don’t panic.”

Kelli barely had time to process the command before Talisa spun around, grabbing an old sweatshirt from a chair and tossing it toward her. Kelli watched, stunned, as the sweatshirt fell from the sky like a heavy, cotton avalanche. Before she could react, her entire world went dark.

The weight of the sweatshirt pressed down on her, not crushing but heavy enough that it made it difficult to move. The thick fabric clung to her skin, trapping her underneath its warmth. It smelled like Talisa—her perfume mixed with the faint scent of her body, the lived-in smell of the clothes she wore regularly. Kelli struggled beneath the weight, her body pinned under the soft but overwhelming material. She wriggled, pushing at the fabric, but quickly realized it was futile. The more she moved, the more the sweatshirt seemed to engulf her, making her feel even smaller.

Talisa’s voice floated above her, muffled by the thick cotton. Kelli strained to hear.

“Hey, Mom,” Talisa said casually, the sound of the door opening further muffling her voice. “I was just changing. Give me a sec.”

“What were you doing? I thought I heard you talking to someone,” her mother said, suspicion lacing her tone.

Kelli could barely make out the words, but the tension in Talisa’s voice was clear. “Who would I be talking to? I was out with Kayla, but she met up with her boyfriend, so I came back here to clean like you asked.”

Kelli lay still under the sweatshirt, feeling the vibrations of Talisa’s movements through the desk. She could picture Talisa moving around the room, trying to look casual while her mom searched for any reason to extend the conversation. The sound of drawers opening, clothes being tossed into a basket—Kelli could hear it all, even if it felt distant, like she was listening from another world.

“Okay,” Talisa’s mom finally relented. “Just make sure you actually wash those clothes. And remember, no friends over until you get your sociology grade up. We agreed on a B.”

“I know, I know. I’ll get on it,” Talisa said, her voice softening as her mom left the room.

Kelli waited, her heart thudding in her chest. She expected Talisa to lift the sweatshirt off immediately, to let her out of this makeshift prison. But the minutes dragged on, each one feeling longer than the last. The weight of the sweatshirt pressed down on her, and the warm, stifling scent of Talisa’s perfume surrounded her, thick and suffocating. She felt trapped, not just physically but emotionally. The reminder of her powerlessness in this world clawed at her, making her chest tighten with frustration.

Finally, after what felt like an eternity, the weight lifted, and light flooded in. Talisa’s face appeared above her, apologetic but relieved.

“Sorry, Kelli,” Talisa said, her voice sheepish. “I had to make sure Mom wasn’t going to bust back in here and catch me with you. I’m not supposed to have anyone over right now.”

Kelli stared up at her, the frustration still bubbling beneath the surface. She wanted to be angry—wanted to lash out, even. But what was the point? This was her life now. She was in someone’s pocket. Hidden under someone’s clothes. Just a Little in someone else’s world.

“Well, it’s a good thing I’m not a person then, right?” Kelli said, forcing a smile as she leaned into the bitter joke. She could feel the sting of the words, but humor was easier than admitting how trapped she felt.

Talisa blinked, her expression softening. “You know you aren’t alone, right? No one’s rooting for you more than me.” She straightened up, moving to the other side of the room to continue picking up clothes. “I’ve just got to clean up a bit, but feel free to hang out. I can put my phone in Little mode for you if you want to watch something?”

Kelli hesitated, the offer hanging in the air. It wasn’t that she wanted to watch something—she wasn’t even sure what she wanted. But anything was better than sitting here, feeling like a forgotten accessory. “Sure,” she said quietly, trying not to sound ungrateful. “That’d be nice. Thanks for letting me hang out here.”

Talisa smiled, though it was brief and a little awkward. “Anytime. I mean, I hope we can be friends, Kelli.”

There was a pause, Talisa’s words lingering as she bent down, her eyes locking onto Kelli’s. It wasn’t just a casual statement—it was a question, maybe even a plea. Kelli could see it in the way Talisa waited, hoping for a response that felt bigger than the simple request for friendship.

Kelli looked up at her, feeling the weight of her answer. “Yeah,” she said quietly. “I hope so too.”

But as she sat there, surrounded by the normalcy of Talisa’s room, Kelli couldn’t help but wonder how much of her life she still had left to offer anyone.

It is good to read a happy chapter, glad to see Talisia and Kelli interact and the latter accepting the former’s offer of friendship.

1) “Her first time being here, her first time in any house that wasn’t her own since she’d been infected with Smallara” It’s a milestone for her, though an odd one.

2.1) “She wasn’t in her own home, wasn’t under the watchful eye of her little sister. This wasn’t the facility where she could hear nurses talking in the hallways” She’s gonna have a few instances like this.
2.2) “or even Kayla’s room where she’d started to carve out a space for herself” interesting that when she’s with Kayla it’s “I don’t have my own space” but without Kayla she’s missing her own space she’s created.

3) “if something went wrong, no one was coming to save her. She was entirely at the mercy of someone else, dependent on Talisa’s every move, every decision” well, that’s normally the case when she’s with Kayla anyway.

4) “Kelli could see Talisa’s eyes sweep over her, studying her in a way that felt both casual and intense, like someone inspecting a fragile, intricate piece of art.” Kelli would compare herself to a piece of art.

5.1) “Talisa had always admired Kelli from afar. Even now, it was clear she hadn’t lost that admiration. Despite the infection, despite being reduced to a fraction of her former self, Kelli’s beauty was undeniable.” Starting to see why people think Talisa was into Kelli
5.2) “Her golden-brown hair, though a bit tangled from the day, still framed her face perfectly. Her skin, smooth and flawless, seemed to defy the toll that Smallara had taken on her body.” Kelli’s Ego would like that.
5.3) “Kelli could feel the weight of Talisa’s gaze, but she didn’t move. She could see it in Talisa’s eyes—that same awe Kelli had seen in so many others before” She’s used to a bit of attention.
5.4) “It wasn’t admiration for her achievements, her social prowess. It was admiration for something far more basic: her appearance, her physical form. Nothing more.” she’s been objectified and ogled many times by Talisa

6) “Kelli, I need you to be quiet and don’t move. This’ll just be for a second. Don’t panic.” Well, that’s not a red flag at all.

7) “Talisa spun around, grabbing an old sweatshirt from a chair and tossing it toward her.” well, that could easily have ended in injury.

8.1) “What were you doing? I thought I heard you talking to someone,”…“Who would I be talking to?” So if Talisa’s in denial, is she not supposed to have a little with her?
8.2) “so I came back here to clean like you asked.” I thought that summons was fake

9) “And remember, no friends over until you get your sociology grade up.” Well I guess it’s a matter of opinion if Kelli counts as ‘having a friend over’ or ‘petsitting’

10) “She expected Talisa to lift the sweatshirt off immediately, to let her out of this makeshift prison. But the minutes dragged on” Damn it Talise, it’s annoying how casually and unintentionally cruel so many people can be in this world.

11) “She felt trapped, not just physically but emotionally. The reminder of her powerlessness in this world clawed at her, making her chest tighten with frustration” So often is that feeling triggered for her now.

12) “She wanted to be angry—wanted to lash out, even. But what was the point? This was her life now. She was in someone’s pocket. Hidden under someone’s clothes. Just a Little in someone else’s world” Kelli learning to bottle up her emotions isn’t the character arc I was expecting her to have.

13) “Well, it’s a good thing I’m not a person then, right?” Making dark jokes about one’s situation is always a win. (It’s how I survived high school)

14) “You know you aren’t alone, right? No one’s rooting for you more than me.” She is alone, in ways you’ll never understand Talisa, just like you’ve been alone in ways she’ll never understand.

15.1) “I’ve just got to clean up a bit, but feel free to hang out” and her other option is… Nothing
15.2) “I can put my phone in Little mode for you if you want to watch something?” when was Little mode invented?

16) “she said quietly, trying not to sound ungrateful. “That’d be nice. Thanks for letting me hang out here.” I hope her gratitude is real here, Littles pretending to be grateful isn’t a rare thing though.

17) “Anytime. I mean, I hope we can be friends, Kelli.” aren’t they already friends?

18) “Talisa’s words lingering as she bent down, her eyes locking onto Kelli’s. It wasn’t just a casual statement—it was a question, maybe even a plea. Kelli could see it in the way Talisa waited, hoping for a response that felt bigger than the simple request for friendship” Talisa’s put a lot of stock in her friendship with Kelli, more than most would with a Little

19) “Kelli couldn’t help but wonder how much of her life she still had left to offer anyone.” not much.

20) Does Talisa have a surname? (Right now my HC is Talisa Gromit, but I’m curious about the canon answer.

1) Beggers can’t be choosers

2.1) True, too true.
2.2) It’s just a surprising 180.

3) Kayla would be trusted more than most, up there with her parents.

4) Very in character.

5.1) They really are, especially since this is Kelli with no to little make-up on. I do hope it’s just admiration; Ellie gets a bit creepy with her feelings for Jordan, I wouldn’t want Talisa doing that.
5.3) She’d think the world was quite kind.
5.4) And envied

7) Lol, I was imagining the sweater landing on the desk and sliding onto the floor taking Kelli with it.

8.1) Both good and bad of Talisa.

9) I like that

10) I see, don’t fully agree, but understand.

11) Small borns leaving the little City for the first time would.

12) That’s how it starts

14) Un less someone’s ‘molehill’ causing that other ‘mountain’.

15.2) Ok, but for far back of an “older model” would you need to go to find one without little mode.?”

17) I’d call that friendship. Not best friends, but friendship

18) That’s good, most humans we see drop their opinion of a person drastically once they get infected.

19) That’s true, so long as Kayla agrees to it, agrees to take her, and such.

20) She’s still Talisa Gromit to me lol. (and I’m pretty sure Brittney’s last name Is Bitch)

5)based on the coming of age movies of my youth(80s lol) and my own high school and college experience I’m thinking a little Kelli fooling around on Talisa’s giant body seem natural because Kelli hasn’t found much pleasure and no control being small and she is used to using her beauty to influence things like all beautiful people do it is just nature. She is not in a thing with Jordan currently, They haven’t had sex or much time together so I’m sure Kelli needs to let loose some sexual energy. I would think the extra little stamina would in crease this also.
7) Kelli seem close to the edge of the table so the toss seemed dangerous.
12) Kelli is figuring out that she needs to be nice to the giants because they hold her life in her hand and lashing out wont do any good and could make things worse so she is trying to figure out how to redirect her fear and anger in a way at the giant that uses her advanced social skills and I’m guessing will figure out how to use her now cute little form and beautiful doll form to manipulate giants instead of trying to use the force of nature method she used to use because now she is a little sprinkle not a storm lol.
14) I think some peoples struggles are not valid and I believe is ok to judge because some people need to Judged to know that they are being silly compare to real problems that people have that cant go away instantly like theirs. I think bringing back a little judging is a good thing. Not bullying of course but I know Judging made me try to be better when I was young to work hard and buy nice trucks so I could get girls lol.
17-18) I think since Talisa has more power with Kelli being a little she will try to grow closer to Kelli so she can hope to get my advise and I think having a little Kelli in her control feels like she is more then a popular girl finally
19) Being a driven person that had so many dreams and goals she was working for then just taken away and reduced to basically a doll who’s life is controlled by her giant sister. If Kayla wanted, she could set her now doll sister up with Jordan or maybe another little guy of a friend she has like playing with dolls as a kid and Kelli has no control at all. It would be a very depressing kind of thing.
20) I think she could be a fun coming of age person learning a lot for little Kelli

It’s good to have these happy but deep feelings and emotions chapters about the dichotomy between little and people and how they both relate and differ to each other basically a mirror in a way.

Also ahhhhhh I want my Jordan and Kelli moments now damn it lol

1) I think the vulnerability Kelli is feeling plus her having a giant admirer I think would make a good opportunity for Kelli to try to take a little power back and teaches Talisa about her body
2) Talisa left Kelli unprotected from bugs a few times and throwing the shirt on her was a unnecessary risk and shows her lack of training and risk assessments guardians have. Even Kayla watch’s Kelli like a hawk and knows where she is at all times because she knows the risks Kelli faces. I don’t think Talisa had any bad intentions at all, if anything the opposite but I think it would have been easier to just tell her mom she is helping Kayla out for a sec watching Kelli. I am sure her mom would have been fine with her trying help Kayla and Kelli in the stressful time they are in. But again she is kind of a scared girl with not a lot of confidence so its understandable. This is another reason a physically forward Kelli could really manipulate giant Talisa to feel a least a little better and making Talisa’s best memory ever lol. I am from the 80s, we had a lot of fun coming of age high school movies lol.

I’m not sure how many girls you have been around that like girls but i dated, went to school and worked closely for about 15 years when I was younger with 4 of them. When they want to fool around or play with a girl, that is sometimes how they talk if not more graphic. The fooling around with a girl that hasn’t is the most exciting thrill lol. With out knowing it you sent up up a little Kelli teaching
giant Talisa about her body and giving her a coming of age lesson lol. I guess I was lucky I grew up in the fun 80s lol.

I just noticed the picture again and isn’t Kelli on the side of the desk super risky, its like she is hanging off a slippery side of a mountain that the fall could kill or really hurt her?
