Kayla Episode 21: A Smallara Side Story

Unexpected work trip so I will be out of town for a week. So this is the last post till probably wednesday or thursday its unclear what day i will be home

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The soft, muffled sounds of conversation drifted up from beyond the fabric walls of Talisa’s hood, but Kelli couldn’t make out the specifics. She could tell Talisa was talking to her mother, likely in the kitchen now, and the distant murmur of a younger voice pierced through the haze, causing Kelli to tense. It must have been Talisa’s cousin, the one she had briefly seen earlier. The idea of being discovered by a curious younger girl, someone who might think of her as a toy or something to play with, sent a wave of anxiety through Kelli’s small frame.
I don’t want to be seen, she thought, her body instinctively shrinking deeper into the soft cotton folds of Talisa’s hood. Her fear was irrational, she knew that, but it was a fear nonetheless. The idea of Talisa’s cousin, or even her mom, spotting her, holding her, was unsettling. It wasn’t that Kelli distrusted Talisa’s family, if anything, Talisa herself had been nothing but kind and careful, but the reality of being vulnerable to someone else’s family felt too raw, too unpredictable.
As Talisa moved toward the kitchen, Kelli’s world shifted and swayed again, the rhythmic rocking of her steps causing the hood to tilt from side to side. Every movement was magnified from Kelli’s perspective, each footstep sending a ripple through the fabric, forcing her to readjust her footing constantly. She gripped the edges of the hood tighter, her fingers digging into the soft material as she pressed herself deeper into the fabric for stability.
The scent of Talisa was stronger here, enveloping Kelli like a blanket. It wasn’t unpleasant, just an overwhelming mix of soap, faint perfume, and the slightly sweet, floral scent of her hair products. The fabric still carried the clean smell of laundry detergent, a reminder that she was being held close to someone’s body, sheltered by their clothes. It was strange to Kelli, how intimate this all felt. She had always been aware of her own personal space, even back before the infection, but now? Now, her world was nothing but personal space. The hood felt too warm, too close, like a bubble that she couldn’t escape from.
I should say something, Kelli thought, her mind briefly racing with the idea of speaking up, telling Talisa that maybe this wasn’t the best idea. But she stopped herself. The last thing she wanted was to get Talisa into trouble with her family. She didn’t know these people, didn’t know how they’d react to a Little being in the house without permission. Kayla had told her stories about how strict Talisa’s mom could be when it came to rules, and Kelli didn’t want to make things awkward.
Instead, she stayed quiet, burying herself deeper into the folds of the hoodie, her small body feeling like it was sinking into the fabric. The motion beneath her feet grew steadier as Talisa re-entered what Kelli could only assume was the kitchen, and the low hum of conversation grew louder, though still muffled by the thick cotton walls of the hood. The fabric pressed against her, warm and slightly damp from the ambient heat of Talisa’s body, and Kelli felt her stomach churn with a mixture of anxiety and mild motion sickness. Every step Talisa took felt like a tiny earthquake, the hood dipping and rising with each movement, and Kelli had to brace herself to keep from tumbling backward.
From her vantage point, Kelli could only hear snippets of conversation, Talisa’s mom asking if she’d set the table, the younger cousin’s high-pitched voice chiming in with something that was lost to Kelli’s ears. The sounds were distant, like they were coming from another world, one that Kelli no longer belonged to. It was a strange sensation, being so close to the action yet completely removed from it, as though she were watching life through a foggy window.
“Talisa, can you grab the salad from the fridge?” her mom’s voice came through, clearer this time, but still muffled.
Kelli felt the sudden motion of Talisa bending down, and her entire world shifted again. The fabric of the hood pulled tight around her as Talisa reached for something, the sudden dip causing Kelli’s heart to skip a beat. She slid slightly forward, her fingers digging into the fabric for support as she struggled to keep her balance. It was disorienting, one moment she was pressed against the back of the hood, the next she was sliding toward the middle, the loose fabric giving way beneath her feet.
She hated how powerless she felt in moments like this. Back when she was full-sized, she would’ve been the one in control, the one making the decisions. But now, every movement Talisa made was a reminder of how fragile her world had become. The constant swaying, the shifting, the way the world tilted with every step, it was all a stark reminder that she wasn’t in charge of her own life anymore. She was just along for the ride.
Talisa moved quickly, and soon the steady rhythm of her footsteps resumed as she carried something, likely the salad, to the table. Kelli’s stomach lurched again as Talisa bent down to set it on the table, the sudden drop making her feel like she was falling, even though the distance was small. She braced herself, pressing her back into the soft fabric as her tiny body adjusted to the constant movement. She could feel her heartbeat quicken, her anxiety rising as she tried to focus on something other than the swaying motion of the hood.
As the family settled into dinner, the sounds around her became more distinct. The clink of silverware against plates, the soft murmur of voices, and the occasional laughter from Talisa’s cousin. It felt surreal to be so close to a family dinner and yet completely invisible to everyone around her. She could hear Talisa’s mom talking about something mundane, work, maybe, or school, but Kelli couldn’t bring herself to care. She was too focused on her own discomfort, on the sensation of being tossed about with every subtle movement Talisa made.
Talisa herself seemed more relaxed now that she was seated, but even then, every slight shift in her posture sent a ripple through the hood. When she leaned forward to take a bite of food, the fabric would stretch, pulling Kelli toward the back of the hood. When she leaned back, Kelli would be pushed slightly forward, her feet slipping on the soft material as she tried to adjust. It was like being caught in a never-ending wave, constantly having to find her balance.
The smell of food wafted up from the table, a tantalizing mix of spices and warmth that made Kelli’s stomach rumble. She hadn’t eaten since earlier in the day, and the scent of dinner only reminded her of how hungry she was. But there was nothing she could do about it. She was stuck here, hidden away in Talisa’s hood, completely removed from the world she used to know.
Is this how it’s going to be from now on? Kelli wondered, her thoughts spiraling as she stared up at the dark fabric above her. Riding in someone’s hood, waiting for them to finish their lives so I can have mine?
The thought made her stomach turn, and not just from the motion. It was the helplessness that gnawed at her, the constant reminder that she wasn’t in control. She had always been independent, always the one to lead, but now? Now, she was just an afterthought, a passenger in someone else’s world.
The dinner continued, with Kelli listening passively to the family chatter. Talisa’s younger cousin’s voice would cut through every now and then, sharp and loud, and Kelli found herself instinctively burrowing deeper into the hood, as though the fabric could shield her from the noise. She could hear Talisa responding, trying to balance between engaging with her family and making sure Kelli stayed hidden and safe.
Every now and then, Talisa would shift slightly, and Kelli would feel the gentle tug of the fabric against her body, reminding her just how precarious her position was. She could feel the faint vibrations of Talisa’s laughter through the fabric, the gentle rise and fall of her shoulders creating a rhythmic swaying that made Kelli’s head spin. The hood was a safe enough place, but it wasn’t without its challenges. The constant motion, the muffled sounds, the warmth of Talisa’s body all around her, it was overwhelming in ways that Kelli hadn’t anticipated.
Finally, after what felt like an eternity, dinner began to wind down. Kelli could hear chairs scraping against the floor as people got up from the table, their footsteps thudding softly against the ground as they moved about. She felt a brief surge of hope that Talisa would be able to sneak her back upstairs now, but that hope was quickly dashed by Talisa’s mom calling out.
“Talisa, can you help clear the table, please?”
Kelli’s heart sank. She wasn’t sure how much longer she could handle this. The constant swaying and shifting, the way the world seemed to tilt with every step, it was making her nauseous. But she couldn’t exactly speak up, not without risking discovery. So, she stayed silent, burying herself deeper into the folds of the hood as Talisa stood up to help.
The motion resumed, and Kelli braced herself as Talisa began clearing the table. Each time Talisa bent down to pick up a plate, Kelli felt herself slipping slightly, the fabric pulling tight against her body as the world tilted. The sound of clattering dishes filled the air, muted but ever-present.
Talisa moved quickly while trying to steady her body, her movements more hurried now as she carried dishes from the table to the sink. The bouncing sensation in the hood intensified, and Kelli’s stomach flipped with each step. She pressed her body into the fabric, trying to keep herself steady, but it was no use. The hood was too loose, too pliable, and every movement sent her sliding in one direction or the other.
Finally, after what felt like an eternity, the kitchen fell quiet again. The dishes had been cleared, the table wiped down, and Kelli could hear the faint murmur of Talisa’s mom talking to her cousin. Talisa, for her part, seemed to be finishing up, her footsteps growing softer as she moved toward the door.
“Can I go upstairs now, Mom?” Talisa asked, her voice slightly breathless. As still and careful as she had tried to be. She knew it had to be rough for Kelli.
There was a pause, and then, “Yes, but make sure you finish your homework tonight.”
Kelli felt the tension drain from her body as Talisa headed back up the stairs, the gentle sway of her movements finally starting to feel more familiar, more manageable. The hood still dipped and shifted with each step, but it was less chaotic now, more controlled. And as they reached Talisa’s room, Kelli let out a sigh of relief.
The door closed behind them, and Kelli felt the world tilt one last time as Talisa sat down on her bed. The swaying stopped, and for the first time in what felt like hours, Kelli felt grounded again.
Talisa reached up, her hand gently cupping the edge of the hood as she tilted it forward. “You okay in there?” she asked softly, her voice filled with concern.
Kelli blinked up at her, her heart still racing from the constant motion, but she managed a small nod. “Yeah,” she said, her voice barely above a whisper. “Just… give me a second.”
Talisa’s hand hovered nearby, offering Kelli a way out, but for the moment, Kelli stayed where she was. The hood was still warm, still soft, and despite everything, it was the safest place she had right now.
(1) Surprised that Kelli made it through dinner without being found by the younger cousin.
(2) Kelli enjoying the softness of Talisa’s hood is heartwarming.
Enjoy your work trip.
(1) Part of me actually wishes she was, Just to see the dynamic of her interacting with them, and what would happen to Talisa. But I doubt it would happen given that neither the cousin nor mother were given names
(2) I also liked seeing that, I’m glad she found comfort in all this.
0) Safe travels.
1) “The idea of being discovered by a curious younger girl, someone who might think of her as a toy or something to play with, sent a wave of anxiety through Kelli’s small frame.” Jordan did tell her about his escape attempt, wouldn’t be unbelievable if he told her from who he was escaping.
2.1) “It wasn’t that Kelli distrusted Talisa’s family” Why not, Kelli doesn’t know these people, she has no reason not to distrust them.
2.2) “Talisa herself had been nothing but kind and careful” we like Talisa
2.3) “but the reality of being vulnerable to someone else’s family felt too raw, too unpredictable.” entirely fair.
3) “soap, faint perfume, and the slightly sweet, floral scent of her hair products… the clean smell of laundry detergent” Considering Talisa’s been skating around this afternoon, This could smell much worse than id does.
4.1) “I should say something, Kelli thought, her mind briefly racing with the idea of speaking up, telling Talisa that maybe this wasn’t the best idea” Fair to be reconsidering after a trial period
4.2) “But she stopped herself. The last thing she wanted was to get Talisa into trouble with her family. She didn’t know these people, didn’t know how they’d react to a Little being in the house without permission” this is a valid concern, I’d wager Talisa would check in on her before too long.
5) “The sounds were distant, like they were coming from another world, one that Kelli no longer belonged to” it’d be like listening to a foreign language.
6) “Back when she was full-sized, she would’ve been the one in control, the one making the decisions” Part of me is very curious about how an Immune Kelli would handle guardianship.
7) “Kelli’s stomach lurched again as Talisa bent down to set it on the table, the sudden drop making her feel like she was falling” Rapid and unexpected movement would be the worst.
8) “The smell of food wafted up from the table, a tantalizing mix of spices and warmth that made Kelli’s stomach rumble. She hadn’t eaten since earlier in the day” that’d be unintentionally tantalising.
9) “Is this how it’s going to be from now on? Riding in someone’s hood, waiting for them to finish their lives so I can have mine?” Specifically, the hood thing is probably a time event but waiting for humans before her turn is gonna be a thing.
10) “Every now and then, Talisa would shift slightly, and Kelli would feel the gentle tug of the fabric against her body, reminding her just how precarious her position was” Well if she’s not walking around now it’d be steadier, so these movements would remind her of things.
11) “She wasn’t sure how much longer she could handle this. The constant swaying and shifting, the way the world seemed to tilt with every step, it was making her nauseous” Little Nausea getting a mention is interesting, it doesn’t come up often despite avoiding it being a focal point of guardian training.
12) “Talisa moved quickly while trying to steady her body, her movements more hurried now as she carried dishes from the table to the sink. The bouncing sensation in the hood intensified, and Kelli’s stomach flipped with each step.” Not the best plan on Talisa’s part, even though I suspect her goal may have been to get Kelli out quicker.
13) “As still and careful as she had tried to be. She knew it had to be rough for Kelli.” I’m betting she has some regret as to her plan now, even if Kelli hasn’t voiced any yet.
14) “The hood still dipped and shifted with each step, but it was less chaotic now, more controlled” Talisa more conscious about it.
15) “You okay in there?” checking in on littles is always good.
16.1) “Talisa’s hand hovered nearby, offering Kelli a way out” I’m Glad Talisa is waiting rather than just grabbing her.
16.2) “for the moment, Kelli stayed where she was. The hood was still warm, still soft, and despite everything, it was the safest place she had right now.” looks like she did found some comfort in there.
17) NGL, part of me was expecting to see Kelli discovered and interacted with by Talisa’s family.
Kelli would have been a great guardian like sara without the little pet racism. I would like to see a story where all the littles and guardians switch sizes from bonding. That would be super entertaining. Big Jordan and big Kelli dating and of course Kelli in charge taking care of Sara and Kayla for Jordan who is just going to work and wash his car lol.
I know I commented about this before but hearing you description of Kelli being a guardian sounds so interesting. I think a side story about Kelli and Jordan becoming big again and and becoming a couple and Sara, Kayla becoming their littles to take care of because of a freak accident of some kind and just little quirks like Kelli getting Kayla a little skateboard and her doing tricks on giant stuff around Kelli and Jordan’s house and dynamic of sara dealing with being a little, kind of like Cindy does but not as bad because sara was nice but still thought they were pets. And how loving Chole would be to Sara and if they would stay a couple. I think there is so much there if you our lethal wanted to open that pandoras box. I wouldn’t even have to be permeant, it could wear off in a few years lol.
One thing that’s stuck out to me between the last chapter and this one is that Talisa’s mom send she couldn’t have anyone over, and Talisa is making sure to keep Kelli out of sight.
I might be reading too much into it, but I think that’s a sign that Talisa and her mom see littles are more than just animals, or at the very least that is how Talisa sees Kelli, and maybe it extends out to all littles.
idk, could be nothing, but in the past, people with more equal view points in these stories tend to have odd behavior and tend to defer to what society says vs giving their own opinion, like the banker and Stephanie’s mom in Madison’s world.
I guess the flip side could be Talisa’s mom hates littles and doesn’t want them in her house at all lmao
Talisa is confirmed to see Kelli as a person, her opinion on Jordan, Gavin or another little mightn’t be as high though.
We know nothing of her mothers opinion.
1) I know I and everyone wants to think the best of Kayla and Asuka even saying this series is just a small look at the Kayla and Kelli world but I unfortunately as a kid I saw a lot of bad parents and Kayla is one I believe with the way she has not made her fragile little older sister a priority. I don’t believe saying she was to young or didn’t want to be a guardian is a excuse because she took the job and got all the benefits like new popular friends, all Kelli’s things and extra life span. I will will put in order the instances that made me come to this conclusion.
1)397 S Main – put in small purse that was super cramped for Kelli. not a purse for a little.
2)397 S Main – Kayla didn’t have a coat for Kelli and she got cold right away talking to Jordan. Luckily sara had a coat for Jordan.
3)466 Main – left Kelli for awhile sitting in someone else’s locker while she just talked and forgot about her until someone said something and she looked over and saw her.
4)648 s main no swim suit for Kelli but she had a nice one for herself. Of course every parent thinks of themselves first.. NOT.
5)397 main thru current series no place for Kelli to sleep, shower, go to the bathroom or put cloths and get dressed. I know every parent doesn’t give their kids a room or bathroom.
6) 494 thru 495 main I Kyla had her new friends over and while it was nice to see Jordan, Kelli had no room where they could safely go and not hear the loud giants having fun while Kelli and Jordan had to hide in a stinky shoe of Kayla’s for any privacy or a little less noise.
7) Kayla 1– Lied to Kelli that the dog bed she got was a off-brand and made her sit on it doing nothing bored out of her mind while she towered over her like a uncaring giant. She commented Kelli didn’t want a habitat and like a good parent she could have taken her to the store and found one that worked for both and nicely but forcefully said she is getting a habitat like any parents do like tell telling kids that have to brush their teeth or cant sleep on the floor. Kayla enjoying Kelli being bored and having to go where Kayla wanted, a reversal. great happy yours sister loss her humanity and life
8) Kayla 2 – minimal help from Mom and Dad when it came to finances is what Kayla wanted even if Kelli needed something to have an humane living environment ?
9) Kayla 3- hanging off her Skate board and not on her person so Kelli is looking at her feet and the giant road would be like hanging your kid on a open door going down the highway. Hey your a good driver like she is a boarder what’s the problem.
10 )Kayla 4- Kayla while having Kelli hanging on the giant skateboard moving super fast for Kelli did a trick that scared her so bad she almost peed herself . Nice
Kayla admitted to Kelli that the skatepark was the only place she was in control not Kelli and Kelli I’m sure already traumatized from what’s happing and smallara said great well your in control now. And of course upset jumped off the board with out thinking of safety because like a lot of people in a frame of mind that is hopeless, her safety did not matter. Kelli had to wipe dirt off and just kept walking and Kayla to her credit told her she couldn’t walk in the park because people wouldn’t see her and would hurt her, but like I said again Kelli was in a hopeless train of thought and why worry about being alive if you have lost everything. Again Kayla go to her and said sorry and grabbed her but put her in that helpless and hopeless state in the first place when she should be protecting her sister not making her not care about her safety.
11) Kayla 9- Giant Kayla unloaded all the built up hurt at a 6 inch Kelli that was trying to explain Kayla never said anything and didn’t act like she wanted to be part of that stuff when she did take her there which on the surface makes sense. So Kayla is yelling at Kelli for her not being able to ask for help in her life at school and social life. Nice. Then she just grabs Kelli with no warning ands asks non trained Talisa with a unsafe little house and is not suppose to have anyone over to take Kelli and put her in Talisa hand . Didn’t say when she would get her just later, and then coolly turned around and left still hurt. Very mature of a guardian/parent.
12) Kayla 10- she admitted to carter she should have bought Kelli a habitat like her friends that had pluming but noooo because she doesn’t want to ask her parents for money and of course if doesn’t effect giant Kyla just her little that happens to be her sister and oh right her a carter then started joking about Kayla being lazy and buying Kelli a dog bed the lying to her trying to convince her it was a little bed and of course Kelli knew it wasn’t and like a good Giant sister that was suppose look after her sister that lost everything ignored her and played games, see #7
I really want Kayla and Kelli to work out and love each other but I realllllly think Kayla needs to say sorry for not thinking what Kelli needed before she thought of her self because Kelli can’t get anything for herself, she is totally dependent on Kayla hence guardian/ parent. and of course Kelli needs to understand Kayla is in charge and give her more respect and space when she gets her a condo like Jordan and hopefully she can call sara direct and ask if Jordan can play lol.
