Kayla 27 1

Kayla Episode 27: A Smallara Side Story

Talisa nervously glanced at Kelli as the sound of footsteps climbed the old wooden stairs. The thick doors and sturdy construction of her family’s restored house muffled the voices, but she could tell her mom had likely seen Kayla and Sara arrive and let them in without hesitation. Normally, Kayla stopping by was no big deal, but this time was different. This time, Sara Reeves was with her.

Talisa felt a knot tighten in her stomach as she walked toward the door, wiping her slightly damp palms on her hoodie. She paused for a moment before opening it, just as Kayla and Sara reached the top of the stairs.

“Yo,” Kayla greeted casually, giving her trademark wave as she stepped into the room. She walked in with an easy confidence, her posture relaxed, as though she didn’t sense the tension crackling in the air. Sara followed behind her, her presence calm but commanding. She didn’t have to say or do much to draw attention; her quiet confidence did all the work.

“Do you need anything? Water? Tea? Soda?” Talisa blurted, her voice a pitch higher than usual as she tried to play the gracious host.

Kayla raised an eyebrow, smirking. “You don’t even have soda here,” she said, glancing around the room as though scanning for hidden drink options. “You almost never drink it.”

Talisa flushed, her cheeks turning pink as she fidgeted with the edge of her sleeve. “Right,” she admitted. “But the gas station’s just down the road. It’d only take a second.”

Sara chuckled softly, her voice low and soothing. “We’re fine,” she said, offering Talisa a small, kind smile. Her sharp eyes flicked around the room, taking in the wooden trim and unique details of the restored home. “Beautiful place. Kayla mentioned your family did all the restoration.”

Talisa blinked, caught off guard by the compliment. “Uh, thank you,” she managed, her nerves making her voice wobble slightly.

Sara nodded, her expression thoughtful. “Chloe would love this,” she said, almost as an afterthought, as her gaze lingered on the intricate woodwork.

“C-Chloe?” Talisa stammered, feeling the knot in her stomach tighten further. “Here?”

Kayla, unfazed, walked over to Talisa’s desk. She scanned the surface, her eyes landing on Kelli, who sat cross-legged with an unreadable expression. Relief flashed across Kayla’s face for a moment before she schooled her features into something more neutral.

Both sisters locked eyes, and without hesitation, they spoke at the same time. “I’m sorry.”

The unintentional synchronization made both of them pause. Talisa’s gaze darted between them, unsure whether to break the tension or let the moment play out. Even Sara tilted her head slightly, observing the interaction with quiet interest.

Kayla rubbed the back of her neck awkwardly, a faint, nervous laugh escaping her. “Guess we’re more alike than we thought,” she said, her tone attempting lightness but betraying her unease.

Kelli raised an eyebrow, though the corner of her mouth twitched into a faint smirk. “Let’s not get carried away,” she said dryly, her voice soft but tinged with a touch of humor.

The room settled into a tentative quiet, the unspoken weight of their relationship hanging in the air. Kayla shifted her stance, leaning slightly against the desk as if grounding herself. “Kelli,” she started, her voice steady but hesitant, “I really am sorry. For earlier. For everything, I guess.”

Kelli’s expression softened, though her arms stayed crossed. “I know, Kayla. I’m sorry, too. I didn’t mean to blow up at you. It’s just… this whole thing still feels so surreal. I hate that everything has changed, and I don’t know how to deal with it half the time.”

Kayla nodded, her hands fidgeting with the hem of her hoodie. “I get that. It’s not easy for me, either. I never wanted to be a guardian. I just… I didn’t want to let you down. I wanted to be there for you.”

Kelli looked at her younger sister, her expression unreadable for a moment. “And you are,” she said quietly. “Even when it’s messy. Even when it doesn’t feel like it, I know you’re trying. I just need time to figure out how to be… this.” She gestured at herself, her frustration evident.

Kayla let out a small, shaky laugh. “I think we both do. But maybe we can figure it out together?”

Kelli hesitated before nodding slowly. “Yeah. Together.”

The tension in the air eased slightly, though the unease between them hadn’t fully disappeared. It was progress, but it was tentative, like the first shaky steps on a tightrope. They weren’t perfect, and neither of them expected to be, but they were willing to try.

“Everything good over here?” Sara asked, her calm voice cutting through the moment but not disrupting it. She leaned against the doorframe, her sharp gaze flicking between the two sisters.

Kayla glanced over at her and nodded. “Yeah, we’re good. Still figuring things out, but we’re good.”

Sara gave a small nod, her approval subtle but clear. “That’s what matters.”

Talisa, still standing awkwardly to the side, finally found her voice. “So, uh… Chloe?” she asked hesitantly, her curiosity overriding her nerves. “She’s… close with you?”

Sara raised an eyebrow, clearly amused by the question. “Yeah, she’s my girlfriend,” she said simply, the words carrying an effortless confidence that made Talisa’s face flush.

“Oh,” Talisa said quickly, her voice a little too bright. “Cool. That’s… cool.”

Kelli snorted softly, shaking her head at Talisa’s obvious fluster. “Smooth,” she muttered, her tone light but teasing.

Talisa shot her a glare but quickly returned her focus to Sara. “Well, um, thanks for coming. I mean, you didn’t have to, but it’s cool that you did.”

Sara’s lips quirked into a faint smile. “Happy to help Kayla out. And meet you, of course.”

Kayla, now more relaxed, leaned back against the desk beside Kelli. “Alright, so what now?” she asked, glancing around the room.

Sara shrugged, her posture as calm as ever. “Depends. Got any plans?”

Talisa froze, her mind racing as she tried to think of something impressive. Before she could stammer out a response, Kelli spoke up.

“Talisa’s been cleaning her room,” Kelli said innocently, though the glint in her eyes betrayed her amusement. “Very productive.”

Talisa groaned, burying her face in her hands as Sara chuckled softly. The room felt lighter now, the tension breaking under the weight of shared laughter. Even Kelli allowed herself a small smile.

For the first time in what felt like hours, the room settled into a more comfortable rhythm. It wasn’t perfect, and there were still plenty of unspoken words hanging in the air, but it was a start. And sometimes, a start was all you needed.

I’m hoping Kelli suggests they all go skateboarding so Kelli can ask Jordan how he stays on Saras shoulder when she is boarding so she can do the same with Kayla and not have to be on the board and pissing herself lol. And that will give Jordan a chance to get up close and physical with Kelli on Kayla’s shoulder showing her how he does it lol. That should help your desired couple lol.

0) so we’re just Skipping Kayla Chapter 27?

1) “Sara followed behind her, her presence calm but commanding. She didn’t have to say or do much to draw attention; her quiet confidence did all the work” I feel like Talisa is doing some of the work there too.

2.1) “Do you need anything? Water? Tea? Soda?” Talisa blurted, her voice a pitch higher than usual as she tried to play the gracious host.” Being a good host is nice.
2.2) “You don’t even have soda here, You almost never drink it.” Something Talisa and Sara have in common.
2.3) ““But the gas station’s just down the road. It’d only take a second.” That’s a bit extreme, does she have a crush on Sara too?

3) “Both sisters locked eyes, and without hesitation, they spoke at the same time. “I’m sorry.” That’s good, both were willing to apologise first.

4.1) “I really am sorry. For earlier. For everything, I guess.” non specific apologies are weird for me, saying sorry for “everything” is a lot to apologise for at once.
4.2) “I know, Kayla. I’m sorry, too. I didn’t mean to blow up at you. It’s just… this whole thing still feels so surreal. I hate that everything has changed, and I don’t know how to deal with it half the time.” A more specific apology is easier to understand.

5) “I get that. It’s not easy for me, either. I never wanted to be a guardian. I just… I didn’t want to let you down. I wanted to be there for you.” It’d be hard for Kayla to accept this burden, harder than it would have been for Mal and Sara who were both described as “obsessed with littles” and wanted guardianship badly.

6.2) “And you are.  Even when it’s messy. Even when it doesn’t feel like it, I know you’re trying” which is something Kelli should express more.
6.2) “I just need time to figure out how to be… this.” and an adjustment period would be needed, she’s clearly having a harder time with it than Jordan or Gavin.
6.3) “I think we both do. But maybe we can figure it out together?” Very true, Kayla

7)  “Yeah, we’re good. Still figuring things out, but we’re good.” exactly where I was hoping they’d land.

8) “So, uh… Chloe?  She’s… close with you?” Oh, she’s definitely crushing on Sara!

9) “Kelli snorted softly, shaking her head at Talisa’s obvious fluster. “Smooth,” she muttered, her tone light but teasing.” Has Kelli figured out Talisa’s crush on Sara?

10) “Happy to help Kayla out. And meet you, of course.” You’ve met her before, briefly in 486-487 of prime.

11) “Talisa’s been cleaning her room, Very productive.” Damnit Kelli

12) “Even Kelli allowed herself a small smile.” well I’m glad you’re enjoying Talisa’s embarrassment.

13) What’s happening next week? Is it gonna go straight into the next story or with the next story start the Monday of the week after(24 Feb 25)?

1) Sara is an internet celebrity.

21&2) she’s never gonna catch that.
2.3) I see, lol

5) My point exactly, if hypothetically Talisa and Ellie were randomly given Littles Ellie would be much more prepared than Talisa, because she acting wants one. Same deal with Kayla and Sara.

6.1) She’s Kayla’s sister, she’s had 15yrs to figure that out.
6.2) She’s still treated as humanly as Kayla can manage.

7) good start

8) So Talisa’s more nervous about Chloe?

9) only one for Talisa’s heart.

10) Talisa made no impression.

11) A truth Talisa wanted kept quiet, which Kelli would have known.

12) Kelli looks at Sara the way Mal would, where as Talisa looks at Sara closer to how Kayla does.

1) Your right, I feel bad for Talisa, she’s a cutie and just needs confidence. I hope coach Kelli can work with her lol.
2) I noticed that Kayla was more confident and poor Talisa is feeling like she isn’t at everyone else’s level, it makes me feel bad because she is a cutie and nice, I think she has a crush on Kelli and is just intimidated by Sara lol but you never know lol.
3)That is a great sign they both were feeling bad about what they did to each other and couldn’t wait to say sorry.
4) details matter in good communication, most husbands learn the hard way. I know I have lol.
5)The key is Kayla did it for Love and I hope in the future she remembers that when she decides to do something and always remember Kelli in the equation.
6) I like Kelli expressing her need for help dealing with being a little and same with Kayla saying she need to be better also. The best thing is they said they would do it together and I think going forward Kelli needs to be more open to suggesting and learning Kayla’s stuff and same with Kayla with some of Kelli’s stuff. In the end they are basically a team for life now and Kayla never has to be alone but Kelli needs to be encouraging and helpful to make Kayla learn faster and grow and learn easier because now Kayla’s wins and losses are Kelli’s also now.
7) I hope their more then good and Kelli asks Jordan and Sara for tips so Kelli can be on Kayla’s shoulder more to be more involved and have them both proud to be a team
8) Hey they are all Horney teens, she cant help it lol.
9) Even as a little Kelli is strong in conversations with giants.
10)English wasn’t my strongest subject so I’m not sure if that line was suggesting first meeting. lol.
11) Ha ha see 10 lol
12) I think she is trying to loosen Talisa up because if little barbie Kelli and joke around, if should loosen Talisa up lol.
13) I really hope Kelli suggests they all go skateboarding at Sara park and Kelli asks Jordan how he stays on Sara while she boards so she can do the same with Kayla. I think that would be a huge step for Kelli and make Kayla feel they really are making progress.

Talisa not knowing that Chole and Sara are dating along with Kelli’s response was funny to me.

Also a subtle reminder that Sara isn’t all the way out of the closet yet.
