Kayla 28 1

Kayla Episode 28: A Smallara Side Story

Kayla lowered her hand onto Talisa’s desk with deliberate care, her fingers slightly curled to create a steady platform. Kelli stared down at her sister’s hand, now her personal transportation, and felt a strange mix of familiarity and unease. The dry, calloused skin bore the unmistakable marks of Kayla’s active life, years of sports and adventures without care that had shaped her hands into something both rough and capable.

As Kelli stepped onto her sister’s palm, she felt the rough grooves of Kayla’s skin beneath her feet. It wasn’t smooth or delicate, but somehow that made it more comforting. This wasn’t just anyone’s hand, it was Kayla’s. The texture, the warmth, even the slight tremor in her grip, it all spoke of her sister’s effort, her care, even when she wasn’t entirely confident.

Kayla lifted her hand carefully, holding it close to her chest, her other hand hanging awkwardly at her side. The faint wobble of her grip betrayed her nervousness, and Kelli braced herself instinctively, gripping Kayla’s thumb for balance. Around them, Talisa and Sara’s conversation filled the room, punctuated by the occasional quiet remark from Jordan. The voices swirled like background noise, but Kelli’s focus was locked on her sister.

For a moment, Kayla didn’t say anything. Her lips pressed together, and her gaze flickered downward, avoiding Kelli’s eyes. Kelli recognized the hesitation, it was classic Kayla, fumbling for words she didn’t know how to say.

“I guess it’s up to me to go first,” Kelli thought, a small sigh escaping her lips. She studied her sister’s face, noting the way her jaw tightened slightly, the way her fingers shifted nervously beneath her. It wasn’t that Kayla didn’t care. She cared too much; she just didn’t know how to express it.

“Thank you, Kayla,” Kelli said finally, her voice quiet but steady. The words hung in the air between them, heavier than she’d expected. “I know this hasn’t been easy for you. Taking all of this on, it’s so far outside your comfort zone.”

Kayla’s head jerked up, her eyes widening slightly as though she hadn’t expected gratitude. Her lips curved into a faint, lopsided smile, the tension in her shoulders easing just a fraction. “You could say that again,” she replied, her tone dry but tinged with a hint of humor. The sarcasm seemed to ground her, offering her a moment of familiarity in the vulnerability of the conversation.

Kelli smirked, shaking her head slightly. “You can be such a butt sometimes, you know.”

Kayla’s grin widened, and for a moment, the weight between them lifted. “I feel like it’s my duty as your little sister.”

Kelli’s smile faded, and she fixed Kayla with a sharp look. “You’re my little sister,” she said firmly. “That hasn’t changed. It never will.”

Kayla’s expression softened, her eyes meeting Kelli’s with a quiet intensity. “I know,” she said. Her voice was quiet but filled with conviction. “But I’m here now, Kelli. I wouldn’t have left you, not when you needed me most. I could never do that.”

The sincerity in her words hit Kelli like a wave, and she felt her throat tighten. “I know,” she whispered. “And I appreciate that. I really do. It’s just… hard. Being like this. Being so dependent on everyone for everything. It feels like everything I worked for, everything I wanted, is just gone now.”

Kayla shifted slightly, her grip tightening around Kelli’s small form in a gesture of quiet reassurance. “It’s not gone, Kelli,” she said softly. “You’re just starting over.”

Kelli frowned, her skepticism clear. “Starting over? What does that even look like? I don’t even know where to begin.”

Kayla’s face grew more serious, and for the first time in a while, Kelli saw a flicker of determination in her sister’s eyes. “It looks like this,” Kayla said, gesturing vaguely between them. “Figuring it out one step at a time. We’ll do it together. You don’t have to have all the answers right now.”

Kelli studied her sister’s face, searching for any hint of doubt. But Kayla’s expression remained steady, her confidence unwavering. And for the first time in what felt like forever, Kelli allowed herself to believe, just a little, that maybe Kayla was right.

“I’ll try,” Kelli said finally, her voice soft but sincere.

Kayla’s smile returned, brighter this time. “That’s all I’m asking,” she said. “We’ve got this.”

The two sisters shared a moment of quiet understanding, the chatter of Talisa and Sara fading into the background. It wasn’t perfect, and there were still so many things left unsaid. But for now, it was enough. The rough edges between them were still there, but they were smoothing out, bit by bit, with every step forward.

I agree, I cant wait till Kelli is to be bonded physically with Kayla and Kayla recognizing it and feeling more love and responsibility to make Kelli’s life rewording and keeping her mind sharp with the physical bond completed .

I love Kelli knowing in detail Kayla’s hand. I think Kelli in time will know Kayla’s whole body like that because of her size and enhanced senses and I think when that happens Kelli will feel more comfortable with the big world because she is always going to be in her safe place on her giant protective sister.

Love it! Great to see them acknowledging that they both need to take time to feel out their new lives! Amazing

I like they are moving toward being one team to enhance both their lives as a loving sister team that will be close body and soul forever.

1) I have said this before but I think in line with this positive step forward for these loving sisters, I think Kelli can really prove to Kayla she is all in on working with Kayla by asking Kayla and Sara that they should all go skateboarding to Sara’s Skate park and Kelli can ask Jordan to show her how to safely enjoy Kayla’s boarding with her safely on her shoulder, Jordan can go over to Kayla’s shoulder and physically show Kelli how to hold on to Kayla body in a way to be safe.

1) “As Kelli stepped onto her sister’s palm, she felt the rough grooves of Kayla’s skin beneath her feet.” and without being asked to.

2) “The dry, calloused skin bore the unmistakable marks of Kayla’s active life, years of sports and adventures without care that had shaped her hands into something both rough and capable” I’m sure Kelli could recommend creams for that, making Kayla’s hold of her more comfortable and improving Kayla’s health in the process.

3) “The faint wobble of her grip betrayed her nervousness, and Kelli braced herself instinctively, gripping Kayla’s thumb for balance” Nervousness is understandable for Kayla, and Kelli taking partial responsibility by grabbing her thumb was good.

4) “Talisa and Sara’s conversation filled the room, punctuated by the occasional quiet remark from Jordan” I suppose Talisa would be a Lildipidy san too, or has Jordan not been on any further streams yet?

5) “I guess it’s up to me to go first,” You are the elder Kelli, set the example for her.

6) “Thank you, Kayla.  I know this hasn’t been easy for you. Taking all of this on, it’s so far outside your comfort zone.” I’v been waiting for this, I’m even willing to ignore that it’s been technically a forced thank-you through Talisa’s meddling.

7) “The sarcasm seemed to ground her, offering her a moment of familiarity in the vulnerability of the conversation.” Coping machanisms can be useful in times like these,

8) “You can be such a butt sometimes, you know.” – “I feel like it’s my duty as your little sister.” This is true and also extends to little brothers, (also nice to see Kayla refer to herself as “little sister”

9) “You’re my little sister, That hasn’t changed. It never will.” Awww

10) “But I’m here now, Kelli. I wouldn’t have left you, not when you needed me most. I could never do that.” Kayla’s a good guardian.

11) “It’s just… hard. Being like this. Being so dependent on everyone for everything. It feels like everything I worked for, everything I wanted, is just gone now.” That’s definitely one of the worst aspects of Smallara, or most disabilities.

12) “It’s not gone, Kelli, You’re just starting over.” She has to start over because IT IS GONE! Or at least mostly gone.

13) “Starting over? What does that even look like? I don’t even know where to begin.” She doen;t have that many options either.

14) “It looks like this,” Kayla said, gesturing vaguely between them. “Figuring it out one step at a time. We’ll do it together. You don’t have to have all the answers right now.” Kayla’s really hitting the gold with this one.

15.1) “Kelli studied her sister’s face, searching for any hint of doubt. But Kayla’s expression remained steady, her confidence unwavering” Damn, that’s rare for Kayla
15.2) “And for the first time in what felt like forever, Kelli allowed herself to believe, just a little, that maybe Kayla was right.” Trusting Kayla is good.

16) “It wasn’t perfect, and there were still so many things left unsaid. But for now, it was enough. The rough edges between them were still there, but they were smoothing out, bit by bit, with every step forward.” A wonderful ending to the chapter.

I agree with almost everything you said, very insightful, I think Kayla is growing up and I’m happy I can say I like her again. Like at the pool when she stood tall and took on the bully when she messed with Kelli, Kayla is a loving protective giant sister and I think the way she took over the conversation with Kelli and showed such conviction and strength. I believe when It come to making sure Kelli is protected and happy, Kayla is just as motivated and stronger then Kelli. She was being the one to tell Kelli they were going to rebuild Kelli’s life together and their was not a drop of waver. I think being Kelli’s guardian could turn around Kayla’s life because when she is in guardian mode she is Kelli 2.0 and their is no more humbled, scared to interact Kayla, there is only I am going to do what what ever it takes to keep my sister happy and protected and anyone that gets in my way better watch out. This is the attitude I have been waiting from Kayla and I am so happy.
Thank you Asuka for making Kayla the loving protective sister I knew should could be and I said it before but I think after Kelli bonds with Kayla, based on this chapter, I think Kayla wont take advantage of it and will encourage Kelli to do hard stuff and make Kayla even more protect and loving and she will want to step up her game even more like she was skateboarding.

1) My point is she normally prefers Kayla to verbalise the request, but I can see why relief would forgo that.

2) I’m sure Kelli could buy something for Kayla while with Sara.

4) He’d still be new to the streams.

5) She is, but this is part od the power Kelli still has.

6) I guess.

7) Don’t we all.

9) Indeed, and it was cute.

10) Not perfect nor is Kelli a perfect little, but their relationship is healthy despite their issues.

11) One of my favourite aspects of this story is how realistic its depiction is.

12) Everything she’s ever earned or had or collected, all her potential plans for the future are gone, her ability to use said knowledge.

13) Much fewer.

14) She needs these moments

15.1) I’m sure Kelli can help her with that.
15.2) First of I hope many steps.

16) looking forward to it.

You know I would love to see these stories animated and voiced. I know it’s just a pipedream I just had, but you never know with AI advances happening so fast, maybe this would be a real possibility in the future.

Oh, one more comment about the previous chapters where riding in the hood felt so dangerous. Cleavage travel is the way to go! lol
