The voices of Sara and her friends swirled above Jordan like a warm summer breeze, soft laughter, teasing banter, the occasional clink of jewelry or shifting fabrics. He remained settled comfortably in Sara’s lap, the heat from her body radiating upward like a space heater, cocooning him. His hands sank into the exquisitely soft folds of her deep crimson dress, the fabric rich and almost cloudlike beneath his fingers.
The gentle rise and fall of Sara’s chest gave him a steady rhythm to match his breath to, and for a moment, he let himself relax.
He was only slightly jostled as she reached forward with her free hand to grab the joint that was currently making its way around the group.
“You want some, Jordy?” Sara asked, glancing down at him with an easy smile.
Chloe had assured him earlier that it was safe. Something about the way Littles’ lungs filtered the smoke meant the effects were milder than you’d expect for someone his size, strange, but science had apparently backed it up. Still, Jordan hesitated. It wasn’t that he was scared of the joint’s effect. It was the optics. The scale.
Sara’s gentle strokes down his back paused as she lowered what, from his perspective, looked like a massive hand-rolled cylinder of paper and packed leaf. The joint was only slightly smaller than he was. That image alone, being offered something nearly his own size, was enough to humble him.
He shook his head, offering a soft, “Nah, I’m good,” with a small, almost self-conscious smile.
Sara didn’t press him. She simply nodded and passed the joint along, resuming her featherlight strokes that traced down his back in comforting waves.
The air began to shift as more of the group filtered in. Kayla, looking a bit uncertain but elegant in her white dress, stepped into the room clutching Kelli carefully in her hands. Others arrived behind her, bringing more chatter, perfume, and energy to the already vibrant space.
Then came Mallory.
The room shifted, not in volume but in weight. Her arrival brought with it a ripple of attention. Even amongst the well-dressed crowd, she stood out, statuesque, confident, and dressed in a stunning tan velvet gown that clung to her with elegance and intent. Mallory Bok wasn’t just another rich girl at a party. She was the girl. The queen. Her presence had gravity.
“For me?” Mallory said as she gracefully sank onto the couch beside Sara, effortlessly plucking the joint from her fingers. “You shouldn’t have,” she added with a smirk that told everyone she knew full well they had.
Sara chuckled. “Only the best for you.”
Jordan couldn’t help but glance up at her, unsure of what kind of interaction he’d get from someone like Mallory. She had the kind of social power that could make or break people at school, reputation, influence, subtle menace when needed. She wasn’t cruel, but she could be sharp.
She caught his look and smiled. Not a smirk, not a sneer, a real smile.
“Brought your little date, huh, Jordy?” she said, her tone light but direct. “You’re welcome. She looks great.”
Jordan blinked. “Uh, yeah. Thanks,” he said, trying to match her casual tone. “She does look really nice.”
He then looked up to see Gavin, perched as usual on Mallory’s shoulder, offering him a friendly wave and a thumbs up. Jordan returned the gesture with a slight nod, appreciating the easy camaraderie from the other Little.
Mallory leaned back slightly, her elbow resting behind Sara’s shoulders. “You clean up well, too. I wasn’t sure if you’d pull it off, but the tux suits you. Got a bit of a young Clooney thing going.”
Jordan flushed a little. “I’ll take that as a compliment.”
She smirked. “You should.”
It was strange. Jordan had expected her to be more intimidating, more detached. But there was something more nuanced about her. She wasn’t just a queen bee, she was observant, charming, deliberate. And for some reason, she was going out of her way to make him feel included.
Then Kayla finally took a seat between Sara and Ellie, still holding Kelli in both hands. She looked like someone walking into the middle of a dream, unsure if she was welcome in it.
Sara picked up on it immediately.
“Here, Kayla,” she said, handing her the joint. “Take this. It’ll loosen you up a bit. Take the edge off.”
Kayla hesitated, her eyes bouncing between Sara and Mallory, unsure.
“You look like you’ve seen a ghost,” Sara added, her tone gentle but firm. “It’s just a party. You’re with us now. You belong here. No one’s going to mess with you anymore. Tamara’s done. We made sure of that.”
Kayla gave a small, grateful nod, finally lifting the joint to her lips. She took an uncertain pull, then immediately coughed, her eyes watering.
Kelli chuckled from her lap, looking up at her Guardian with an amused grin. “First time?”
Kayla nodded sheepishly, while Ellie leaned over and handed her a water bottle.
“Don’t worry,” Ellie said. “We’ve all had our awkward first hits. Mine was in Chloe’s greenhouse. Thought I was going to cry.”
“You did cry,” Stephanie added with a laugh. “It was adorable.”
“Okay, mild tears,” Ellie corrected, grinning.
Jordan watched the exchange from Sara’s lap, absorbing the rhythm of it all, the inside jokes, the comfort, the familiarity. These girls were from different worlds, yet they moved through this one like it belonged to them. He felt out of place still, but not unwelcome. And more than anything, he appreciated that they weren’t treating him like a novelty. They were letting him be.
Mallory turned to him again, her expression more thoughtful this time. “How are you adjusting, really?”
Jordan blinked at the sudden sincerity in her voice. “Honestly? I don’t know. Some days are okay. Some days are…” He glanced away. “Hard.”
Mallory nodded. “Yeah. I figured. But you’re doing better than most. You’ve got a solid Guardian. And a solid group. That’s more than a lot of Littles can say.”
Jordan glanced up at Sara, who looked down at him with something warm in her eyes. Something that wasn’t just affection, but pride.
“Yeah,” he said softly. “I guess I got lucky.”
Mallory gave a small smile, then returned to the joint, reclining in her seat like royalty.
As the music turned up and more voices filled the space, Jordan felt himself relax just a little deeper into Sara’s lap. Her hand resumed its place on his back, steady and slow. The rhythm of the party pulsed around him, but here, in this circle, among this group, he wasn’t an outsider.
He was part of something.
okay what the hell….did mallory get hit by a bus, then get abducted by aliens, then get sent to a different dimension only for a different mallory to return? cause she didn’t talk over Jordan once and actually seemed likeable for me as far as the guardian aspect goes for the first time ever lol
Not that I think she is a bad person or anything, definitely looks out for her friends and stuff, just from the guardian aspect she seems way too controlling for her own good.
also, sounds like she even helped Kelli and maybe Kayla with getting ready, though I assumed Kayla asked Kelli to borrow something
I know right this new Mal come out of nowhere like the fuck happen in past….single day or so like seriously lol
She definately helped Kayla who does not do parties like this and would have failed on the dress up.
Mallory can just vibe and work the room. I mean she is popular for a reason.
I agree with that part. I don’t dislike her as a person at all, just her guardian style leaves a lot to be desired. I just think she’s way, way too controlling and the needs and support she’s convinced herself she is giving to gavin are really just what he needs to know and do to make her happy. Which if we saw more of her doing some of the stuff gavin likes and not freaking out about the possibility of “old gavin” coming back, which as long as he isn’t cheating on her it’d be fine, I’d be more okay with. But with a dynamic like this, it would make me worry that she’ll eventually break things off with Gavin and date someone, and all Gavin will have left in his life is an unhealthy desire to make Mallory happy because that’s what he’s been conditioned to do.
I still try to give the guardians a two lens view cause you can be a great person but a shitty care giver
Wow never thought I see Mal treat Jordan like a real friend than when they first met that’s some good depth right there.
Does make me sad when think not many other littles are offered or given better situations like Jordan with Saar granted her first few days with him were tough and most times frustrating but she’s getting better at it.
Wonder if it gets worse or better for Littles overall sadly excluding the ones born or from third or undeveloped countries. Maybe we get a side story in France or UK to really get a feel of this world more because we already know that the US is a mix bag of good and bad ( Mia, Dayton, and others for example)
Also I need to know and this is important question !!!!
IS….JORDAN …..A …MINECRAFT PLAYER OF OLD OR PRESENT?
Heh 😏 going to see Minecraft movie and just wanted to see if Jordan is a gamer or at least was a bit of a gamer back in the day lol
Great stuff as always
Friend might be a bit strong but she was nice to him.

1) “You want some, Jordy?” at least he isn’t being left out.
2) “Sara didn’t press him. She simply nodded and passed the joint along” that’s not like her.
3) “Mallory Bok wasn’t just another rich girl at a party. She was the girl. The queen. Her presence had gravity” well this is Mal’s Party, even if it’s at Chloe’s house.
4) “She had the kind of social power that could make or break people at school, reputation, influence, subtle menace when needed. She wasn’t cruel, but she could be sharp.” tell that to Helen Walsh
5) “She caught his look and smiled. Not a smirk, not a sneer, a real smile.” at least she seems to like him, maybe she’ll take him on a hike in the near future.
6) “appreciating the easy camaraderie from the other Little.” I’d imagine Littles in their situations would be fast friends.
7) “It was strange. Jordan had expected her to be more intimidating and more detached, but there was something more nuanced about her.” Based on her previous behaviour, so did I.
8) “Then Kayla finally took a seat between Sara and Ellie, still holding Kelli in both hands. She looked like someone walking into the middle of a dream, unsure if she was welcome in it.” This would be a pretty big change for Kayla.
9) “Thought I was going to cry.” – “You did cry; it was adorable.” – “Okay, mild tears.” I do like it when the teasing isn’t just directed at Jordan
10) “How are you adjusting, really?” why do you care? Little miss Won’t-let-him-use-your-first-name?
11) “Yeah, I guess I got lucky.” No dude, “lucky” in this world would be immunity or at least a non-abusive guardian.
12) isn’t her last name “Bak”, not “Bok”
It is
1) Sara wouldn’t deny him the opportunity. she isn’t heartless.
2) Well it wouldn’t really matter to her if he partook in it or not. She was just offering to make sure she felt included.
3) That is true. Mallory and Chloe kind of co-run it but its really Mallory.
4) Helen walsh did go after her boyfriend she wasn’t innocent in it. Not saying she deserved it but FAFO as they say.
5) Yes lol. In the not to distant future maybe with Chloe.
6) They only have access to so many other littles I would agree that you would make fast friends. Especially if your guardians are close friends.
7) That is fair. She has dimension to her that in the small bits of her hasn’t been explored.
8) It is. This is new ground for Kayla. She never went to these parties before. Her and Talisa certainly weren’t throwing social events.
9) They tease each other equally. The teasing just means Jordan is included in the group.
10) Well he is her friends little. She would decently care if for no other reason their benefit.
11) Well immunity would be the luckiest you could be. The quality of his treatment good or bad is debatable.
10) I think anyone who makes a little not use their first name has narcissistic mental issue which like I said before makes me worry about Gavin in the long term.
I personally do not condone this POV, but they are trying to get through to him that he is not Jordon anymore. He is a Little and he is going to have to accept it at some point. This one of the aspects of this “world” that really depresses me, but it is so foundational to the story.
to me excepting being a little is different then being treated not as a smart humanoid which is being pushed by the government for exploiting littles for money like slaves. Mal is a outlier in the group making littles not call her by her first name. Chole, Sara, Steph and Cayla don’t. Mal is alone in the group which looks bad on her.
I fall into your category i don’t condone the thinking but you have the right of it. It is part of how the world works.
1) She’s denied him more important things previously.
2) Fair, but him saying no to her has gone poorly more than once.
4) FAFO makes sense for these characters; they definitely believe in a might-makes-right mentality.
Sara and Chloe are also cheaters; I doubt they’ll be “finding out” any time soon.
5) They might even see a boat.
7) “small bits of her” she has her own series, lol.
8) High School is the time to try new things.
9) Jordan is not teasing equally to what he’s being teased.
10) That sounds more like her.
I really like the new mal. I hope I see her being loving to Gavin because being in a time out jar when he is try’s to communicate something is bothering him is creepy and does not give me hope she wont turn on him and abuse him if she gets bored or is forced by her parents to get a human boyfriend. I hope if that happens his mom or Sara is able to get him.
