A million thoughts coursed through Jordan’s mind as he looked up at Sara. What bothered him the most was how he somehow felt guilty over his actions. He didn’t ask to catch Smallera. He didn’t ask for Sara to take him in and become his guardian. She had unilaterally taken that choice from him. Now after attempting to run away somehow he is left feeling guilty. Like he was wrong for wanting to see what freedom was like.
He had to admit after seeing freedom Sara truly was right. He was not equipped to live a life in the wilderness that is suburban New York. He didn’t want to even fathom what the wilderness beyond this suburb looked like.
Making matters worse because of his decision to run from Dayton and Nicolle Sara seemed hellbent on getting him a collar. He failed to see how that really helped her all that much. As he was small enough he was doubtful they could read whatever information was put on it.
“Sara, I’m sorry. I messed up. I wasn’t trying to run from you. My goal as to get back to you. I was being blackmailed by Dayton.”
“Then you should have told me. I asked you if you wanted to stay with me. I can deal with Dayton. She can get a little over the top but she means well. You need to be honest with me and I will promise to be honest with you. I spoke to your sister.”
“You what? how?” Jordan exclaimed shocked.
“Yeah, I’ve been texting Allison. That’s why I was distracted in the car and passed you back to Dayton and Nicolle to start with. I’m sorry to have to be the one to tell you this but your parents caught smallera as you did. she had been trying to call you but couldn’t get in touch with you.” Sara said
“What…I mean at least they are okay. I suppose they are going to one of those government facilities you warned me about.” Jordan said biting his lower lip. “That’s probably for best.”
“No, Allison is taking them in.”
“What? You have to stop her. Tell her not to.” Jordan said w
“What? You should be thrilled. Why didn’t you tell me you had a sister? I-I could have contacted her right away.”
“I don’t want her involved in all this. Do my parents know? We agreed not to involve her. I didn’t think this was real if I’m being honest. You know that but they did and were very scared as they had gotten tested and weren’t immune. We had decided that if anything happened we wouldn’t involve Allison. She deserves a chance at a normal life. Not one stuck taking care of me or my parents. My aunt was supposed to take her in.” Jordan said
“I don’t know all the details. I think she is with your aunt, but she had already contacted the hotline. It sounded like she worked out with the government to cash out your parent’s 401k to pay for guardian training and fees in exchange for them holding her while she was being trained.”
“She shouldn’t have done that. You need to call her and tell her to stop. Hurry” Jordan said frantically.
“It’s been days it’s too late. Forms are filed, and paperwork is done. Your parents are at a holding facility while she takes her classes. I’m sorry there isn’t anything you can do. If you want we can try to see them or have Allison come here for a visit. She said she wanted to face time you.”
“I-I don’t have anything to say. If it’s too late then. I don’t want her to see me like this. You know remember me how I was not who I am and all that.”
