Jordan felt himself lift away from Chloe as Sara stood up. The familiarity of her hand was somehow comforting. The warmth that radiated up from her hand was soothing. He could see Steph and Nicolle talking in another corner of the living room as Sara headed toward the kitchen.
The closer they got to the kitchen Jordan noticed Dayton sitting at the table. Almost immediately his heart stopped as the person he viewed as evil incarnate was sitting at the kitchen table.
“Why are we heading toward Dayton? I just got free of her. I really don’t want to go back.” Jordan said as nicely as he could.
“We are getting you food and she wants to talk to you. I promise I won’t leave the general area. Nothing is going to happen to you.” Sara said as she gave Jordan a reassuring pat.
“Dayton,” Sara said as Jordan watched the young girl lock eyes with him.
“I’m sorry Body Hottie. Sara explained to me that what I was doing was wrong as you still have some rights even if you are an underbred. I didn’t mean to demean you into being just an animal. I promise to treat you fairly when you help me with my homework in the future and when we hang out from now on. You shouldn’t be mad at him Sara. It’s my fault he ran away and I take full responsibility for his actions as you left me in charge of him” Dayton said sweetly.
“You should be sorry. I’m not some mindless animal you can train to sit and roll over. I deserve a little respect.”
“I plan on giving you a little respect from now on. We can start fresh. I took the liberty of forwarding this week’s math homework for you to look over.” Dayton said as Sara lowered her hand down to the table allowing Jordan to step off.
“I’m just going to grab your food Jordan wait here. If anything happens yell. Dayton, leave him alone. I mean it.” Sara said before disappearing into the kitchen.
“I’m not doing your homework. So you can just forget it. I’m not under your thumb anymore. The days you pushing me around are over.” Jordan said confidently knowing Sara would back him up.
“I thought we had an understanding. I’m going to push you around a little as Sara’s practically my sister and the littlest always get picked on. But if anyone else pushes you around tell me about it and I’ll fix em for you. Oh, I’m going to want that homework done by five tomorrow. I do spot check so no funny business. Also, try not to be such a tattle tale. No one is going to want you around if you’re gonna act like a baby.” Dayton said before walking out of the kitchen and going toward Nicolle.
It wasn’t long before Sara strode back in and sat down next to Jordan putting the remains of wrap in front of Jordan. He looked ravenously at the morsel of food. It had been a while since he ate and because Sara had grounded him he only had cereal and water. Now looking at the wrap in front of him he wanted to just dive into it. What gave him pause was Dayton calling him a pet and not just a pet an animal. He wondered if Sara would make him beg or do some tricks in order to get the sandwich.
“You have to be hungry. Running through the yard, climbing shoes, and fighting off insects. I’m sure you have worked up an appetite.” Sara said as she looked down at Jordan trying not to be furious at him, but she knew she needed to calm down after her talk with Dayton. She didn’t want to say anything to Jordan she would regret later.
